Overview
The Gates Hotel South Beach features a look that blends art deco-inspired architecture with modern comfort and vintage glamour. Located on Collins Avenue, the hotel is across the street from the beach and a short walking distance to popular nightlife, restaurants, and shopping. Lincoln Road Mall is located just 1.5 kilometres away.
Cheerfully decorated guest rooms feature colorful headboards and are adorned with locally inspired, abstract artwork. Upscale accommodations include desks, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, coffeemakers and granite bathrooms with walk-in showers. Guests can also book a room with a view of the pool.
Cabanas line the spacious pool deck that overlooks Lake Pancoast and also offers lounge chairs and a poolside bar. The on-site restaurant, OLA, serves Latin American food, including fresh seafood, ceviches and empanadas. The pool bar and lobby bar also offer a food and drink menu. Guests can also treat themselves to a relaxing spa treatment to round out their South Beach experience.

Service, cleanliness of facility, pool was dirty, hot tub was not working and was disgusting. We were unable to check in on time due to hotels computer systems being down. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

The lobby area is beautiful.

The shower was a handicapped shower. It leaked all over the room. Even came out into the bedroom. Also, there are several charges that go on your credit card and many have not been credited back. That ties up a great deal of money when traveling. The room was pretty basic.

The hotel was very nice. It was clean and the ambiance was nice. It is close to Miami Beach. The pool area was well keep and very nice. The cabanas and daybed was very expensive to rent.
The lighting in the room was not very good as we could not turn the bedroom area lights off or dim enough. Also, the barn door for the bathroom did not close well.

I purposely made a reservation with Travelzoo for an upgraded room type - (King bed, balcony with pool view) the photo provided by travelzoo suggested a corner room with balcony and view. The room I was given was not one of these - it didn't have a balcony as it was on the ground floor!!! (so I guess making it a terrace not a balcony). My disappointment is more with Travelzoo them the hotel as I feel the wrong images are being used for the stated room type and I was mis sold the offer. I would have just taken the standard offer at the lower price if I knew I wasn't getting one of the corner room balconies in the photo.

Took several hours to discover heating system was not working, manager promptly sent up space heater which we appreciated. Multiple times staff "warned us" of extra fees if we didn't follow all the rules: lose your towel card or room key and we will have to charge you extra, don't return the bike by the end of your free 60 mins and we will have to charge you extra, etc., etc. The room was sparse, but adequate. We thought we were booking hotel on the beach, not "very close to beach" which is different. Felt we had to be very careful about everything to avoid getting in trouble with hotel staff /rules which just wasn't very relaxing.

The hotel was very conveniently located for walking to the beach, restaurants and other activities. Bed was very comfortable. I thought it was odd that only 2 towels were provided and there was not a trash an in the bathroom- minor complaints.
