Overview

Cornwall is popular throughout the year, due to its "mild climate, breathtaking scenery and long stretches of sandy beach" (Condé Nast Traveller), and its Atlantic coast is dotted with some of the UK's most beautiful coves and bays.

The Gannet Inn is in the village of Carbis Bay on this very coastline, and it has "unique interiors with all the style and finesse of a boutique hotel, while also offering a warm and friendly place to pop in for a catch up or a bite to eat" (The AA). The country-style property opened in 2015, and it is five minutes' drive from the art galleries and winding cobbled streets of St Ives.

You can walk to sister property Carbis Bay Hotel in less than 15 minutes and enjoy the leisure facilities for free -- including the hydrotherapy pool and sauna -- or take a dip in the heated outdoor pool before heading down to the privately owned Blue Flag beach below.

The Gannet Inn has a restaurant and a bar, and a lounge with a fireplace and leather armchairs. The bar also has a dartboard and a pool table. Breakfast is served daily from 7:30-10am.

Bedrooms are individually designed and soundproof, and feature neutral décor and bespoke furniture. Wi-Fi is free.

Everything about the hotel was great, the room was gorgeous and spacious too. Food in the restaurant was excellent with the exception of the French Toast at breakfast which was not cooked, apart from this it was excellent. The use of the Spa and pool at the Carbis Bay Hotel down the hill on the beach was icing on the cake, just fabulous.

The nicely furnished, good sized "Quirky" bedroom, amazingly comfortable king-sized bed, immaculate en suite, the lovely view along the coast from the bedroom window, the delicious food with good choice, good cocktails and wine list, and the friendly and helpful staff .

The inn lies on the main St Ives road, which is set high above sea level. We had driven all day and didn't want to get the car out again, so walked down to the sea along several steep roads to the wonderful sandy beach, which had really good facilities as part of the sister hotel on the beach and a parking area in addition to the hotel's own, but we couldn't face climbing these really steep inclines for the return to The Gannet, and fortunately were offered a lift back. You can phone for a taxi but it will have to come from St Ives. We stayed for one night with a voucher that meant our visit was around half price and therefore exceptionally good value. Had we not received the voucher the hotel would have been outside our budget, but I imagine the full price to be more than appropriate for the high quality of accommodation and food.

The evening meal was delicious and the staff were extremely helpful and worked so hard to keep us happy! We were greeted by a lovely lady who gave us so much advice on where to go visit and what there is to do - having use of the spa facilities at the sister hotel was also amazing
