Overview

Hever Hotel is in the Kent village of Hever -- known for its picturesque Tudor properties. The hotel is a 5-minute drive from the double-moated childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle, which was built in the 13th century. Rich with Tudor artwork and furniture, it also has gardens, a lake, a woodland walk and a maze to explore.

The hotel is on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is full of nature reserves and hiking trails. Chartwell House, a National Trust property once belonging to Winston Churchill, is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Hever Castle Golf Club, which has hosted PGA EuroPro Tour events, is next to the property.

The hotel has a main bar, an upstairs piano bar and a games room with a pool table. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Stables Restaurant, which has a rustic feel, with wooden beams and pillars. The hotel also has a gym, a tennis court and a games room.

Rooms have free Wi-Fi and views of the hotel's grounds.

We found the staff friendly and helpful but our room block could definitely do with a facelift hall and stairs of block desperately needs re-carpeting and redecorating. Room was fine once we got there. Breakfast was fine but a bit of variety over four days would have been nice. the same fruit, bread, pastries aswell as hot food was offered every day. A lack of information about the hotel and the surrounding area on hand was rather unusual. It had a beautiful golf course with great club facilities we foun out after a couple of days. They need to publicise their strengths.

Rooms warm and comfortable but could do with some sound proofing noise from adjoining rooms and aircraft

General condition of the building and our first room was below standard expected.Although we were moved after the first night and a lovely room it was very cold with only one small radiator. The taxi booked by the hotel on our behalf charged over £12 for one mile journey and suggested to be £20 for the return. Due to the isolated location taxis are the only mode of transportation

It was a very nice place. Breakfast was ok. I don’t eat bacon or sausage but husband said it wasn’t good. Eggs rubbery! As the weather wasn’t good we only stated one night.

Location was atmospheric

The room was partially in accessible for my husband due to sloping roof and him being 6.4ft tall plus the room was poorly lit with a small badly placed window and no overhead lighting just two dimly lit bedside lamps. Noisy bathroom fan with no option to switch lights on during the night without the fan which meant we were both woken up if one person used the toilet during the night. Bed uncomfortable so didn’t sleep well either night resulting in my husband returning home with a sore back.

Sadly, the location of the room was a reflection of the price we paid, in 'The Barn' under the eaves, although adequate for a short visit. The location was not easy to find, the Post Code was not helpful. Food was good, although the bar prices were excessive. Staff were polite and efficient.
