TOP 20 - Sells out quickly! Book by Dec. 20

We've negotiated up to 60% off stays including credit for food and drinks at the Graduate Madison, a boutique hotel that's a "collegiate wonderland for grown-ups" (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel).

  • $114 per night ... daily through January and Sunday-Thursday in February-March
  • +$20 for February-March weekends
  • All stays include a $10 daily credit toward food and drinks -- enough to roast some s'mores around the firepits at the new rooftop restaurant

"Upscale [with] a modern look and feel" -- Wisconsin Review Journal

Why We Love It

  • This collegiate-minded boutique is just a block from the University of Wisconsin campus
  • Some rooms include views of the Capitol Building and Lake Mendota
  • The Portage Pi cafe serves coffee, juice and snacks and is often populated by students
  • Wi-Fi is free, there's a 24-hour fitness center and bikes are available for rent

With canoes in the ceilings, lamps that look like Winnebago campers and bright plaid carpets and furniture in the lobby, Madison's new Graduate Hotel evokes both a scholastic feel and outdoorsy vibe. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel called this "rustic-modern" property a "collegiate wonderland for grown-ups."

Rooms range from a cozy Graduate Double with one full bed (perhaps best for solo travelers), all the way up to the Camp Wandawega Suite, made to resemble a camp cabin that features a king bed for mom and dad and bunk beds for the kids. Most guests will find the rooms with one king, queen or two queen beds a fine fit -- all have complimentary Wi-Fi, bright and modern bathrooms, a minifridge and coffeemaker, and some even have views of Lake Mendota.

There are two dining options on site -- the Portage Pi cafe in the lobby features coffee, juice, breakfast sandwiches, salads and signature hand pies with fillings like banana s'mores, short ribs, or cheese curds. Atop the hotel is the Madison Blind, the seventh-floor rooftop bar with a full kitchen, cocktails and beers from local breweries like Karben4 and Ale Asylum along with panoramic views of the city and lake.

When you step off the hotel's grounds (or ride away on one of its rental bikes), you're right in the midst of the U of W world, steps away from the arboretum, Chazen Museum of Art, the Overture Center for the Arts and all the shops, restaurants and bars of State Street.

The location was great. Beds were comfortable.
Other Comments
Lack of ability to control room temperature in room. Hot and stuffy. No housekkeping service during our stay, not even basics of dry towels or emptied trash. Shower floor was not clean, poor water pressure in shower, back of bathroom door was smeared with dirt and in disrepair. Noisy room facing State Steet with no view.

The beds seemed more like a double than a queen but, other than this, the hotel is wonderfully eclectic and within walking distance of the University of Wisconsin Madison.

The staff was courteous and the rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. It was a fun place to stay! The Roof Top bar was awesome and the location of the Graduate Hotel to State Street was the best! We will most certainly stay there again!

The decor and feel of the hotel were wonderful. Thought the restaurant on the top floor (The Madison Blind) was excellent.
Other Comments
Wish the water pressure was stronger. Wish the bathroom sink drained faster (sink filled up immediately—in seconds). The shampoo bottles in the shower were near empty when we arrived. The food at Portage Pi was very mediocre. Seems like attention to details could be improved, but overall, it was a very positive experience.
