“With 60 miles of canals and nearly 7,000 buildings dating from the 18th century or earlier, Amsterdam is one of Europe’s best preserved cities,” says Travel + Leisure. Overlooking one of those canals, part of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the 3-star Amsterdam Canal Hotel.
You’ll be staying in an ideal location, within walking distance of many attractions, including the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Brewery and the upmarket Utrechtsestraat. Stadhouderskade tram stop is a 5-minute walk away.
The property is a historic canal house, with winding staircases to the higher floors that are steep in places. There is no elevator so it might not suit guests with mobility needs. It’s an intimate place, with only 16 rooms, some of which overlook the canal to the rear of the building. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout, wooden floors, and mini bars with free soft drinks, water and snacks, which are restocked daily.
There’s no restaurant on site, but the small bar serves as a venue for the buffet breakfast, and has views of the canal and garden through large windows. There are a number of dining options within walking distance, on the Utrechtsestraat and in the nearby De Pijp neighbourhood.
