Why We Love This Hotel

  • Eastwood Hall is set in extensive parkland grounds on the edge of Eastwood, a former coal-mining town
  • DH Lawrence was born in the town, and there is a museum dedicated to him nearby
  • The hotel is built around a Grade II-listed Georgian manor house

Eastwood Hall sits in 26 acres of private grounds, 30 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre. At the centre of the hotel is a Georgian manor house, which was built as a family home around 1810 and was later used by British Coal as a regional office. Today the manor is a wedding and conference venue, and bedrooms are in a modern annex at the back of the hotel complex.

The property is on the edge of Eastwood, a former mining town bordered by farms and countryside. The DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum (open 10am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday) is the author's childhood home and is a 10-minute walk away; you can learn how growing up in Eastwood influenced his controversial writing. The Blue Line Trail is a walking route that links all of the Lawrence-related sights nearby.

Beauvale Priory and Felley Priory are around 10 minutes' drive away; both have quaint tea rooms that serve homemade cakes and light lunches. The Derwent Valley Heritage Way is a 55-mile-long footpath that runs through the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. It passes a series of 18th- and 19th-century mill complexes and the watercourses that powered them, and can be reached from Belper or Duffied, which are both less than 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. Wollaton Hall, Papplewick Hall and Thrumpton Hall stately homes can all be reached within 30 minutes, and Sherwood Forest -- of Robin Hood fame -- is 45 minutes' drive away.

The hotel has a restaurant and a bar. Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a steam room, a beauty salon and an outdoor tennis court. All 150 bedrooms are in a contemporary annex, and are decorated in neutral tones.

Staff very friendly, made us and our dog very welcome. We were able to sit in bar area for our food from restaurant and dog was able to sit with us. Having seen surrounding area definitely want to return to be able to explore.

All members of staff were cheerful and helpful. Check in was quick and efficient, waiting staff in the restaurant were aware we were on a DB&B basis. We don't drink alcohol so they happily swapped the included wine for alternative drinks. Comfortable well appointed room. Very good food at dinner and breakfast (breakfast self serve). Excellent value for money.

Our room had one of the best showers ever, exceedingly powerful! Lots of space and seating in the public areas of the hotel. Very quiet location.

We were moved to 4 different rooms and eventually put in a Standard room when part of our deal was a Superior room. In the first 2 rooms the TV did not work and in the 3rd room heating did not work. I think I am entitled to some refund as it spoiled my short break. I would expect Travel Zoo to get the Refund as I booked with Travel Zoo. Hoping hear from you soon. Saleem Khan.
