Set in a historic villa, parts of which date back to the 16th century, this elegant hotel is in Campi Bisenzio, about 17 kilometres northwest of Florence. Key cultural attractions, such as the Uffizi Gallery, which contains masterpieces by artists including Piero della Francesca, Botticelli and Caravaggio, can be reached in around half an hour by car. The centre of Prato, Tuscany's second-largest city, is around nine kilometres from the hotel.
The hotel is set among landscaped Mediterranean gardens with cypress trees and fountains. There are comfortable outdoor terraces where guests can enjoy a drink from the bar, and with its sunloungers and umbrellas, the outdoor pool area is the ideal spot to soak up the Tuscan summer sun.
There are a number of elegantly furnished lounges where guests can make themselves at home with a drink or a book from the library. While interiors have a light and contemporary feel, they are designed to optimise period features such as exposed wooden beams, 19th-century ceiling frescoes and rustic tiled floors. The restaurant, which is in the older part of the building and once served as the refectory for the 16th-century orphanage that occupied the building, has exposed stone and brickwork. It serves Florentine cuisine complemented by a wine list that includes regional favourites.
There are 60 bedrooms and suites that are decorated with fresh white, natural wood and the strategic use of bolder colours such as earthy red and midnight blue. Some have features such as exposed woodwork and stone fireplaces.
