Overview

Ranked in Condé Nast Traveller's Readers' Choice Awards in 2016, this Spanish-inspired resort set in the Sonoran Desert offers three pools and six on-site dining options, including the CAA 4-Diamond Prado restaurant. Find shade poolside under the towering palm trees or rent a cabana for the day (fees apply) to take a break from the sun entirely. Take advantage of the resort's guided activities like hiking, poolside yoga and happy hour (fees apply). With Camelback Mountain as the backdrop, guests can take in beautiful vistas and explore the many hiking paths in the area.

Guest rooms are furnished in dark wood and bold colours with custom-designed plush beds and deep-soaking tubs in the bathrooms. Rooms also feature private balconies or patios, a perfect spot to have breakfast or relax with a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

Spend the day at Joya Spa, which offers a full treatment menu with the usual massages and facials and more unique offerings such as hammam baths and naturopathic services including cupping and acupuncture. Continue the pampering in the spa’s steam rooms, whirlpools and saunas. After your treatment, head up to the rooftop terrace to refuel with fresh and healthy menu items in a relaxed spa setting.

Golfers will love playing on one of the many golf courses (there are nearly 200 in the area). Head into downtown Scottsdale -- a 15-minute drive -- to explore restaurants, bars, art galleries and shops.

From the press:
  • "With its graceful plazas and arcaded walkways, this 35-acre retreat located at the foot of Camelback Mountain so resembles an Andalusian pueblo blanco that you’ll forget you’re in Arizona" -- Travel + Leisure
  • "The Moroccan-inspired spa, perhaps the only one in Arizona with services that include a hammam ritual, is at the heart of things" -- Condé Nast Traveller

Location and grounds were wonderful!

Front desk staffer wasn’t particularly welcoming...had an air about him. But second gentleman was warm to another guest so assume it was just an anomaly as other staff were helpful and friendly the rest of the time...

When I checked out of the hotel, my receipt had the hotel's standard rates instead of the Travelzoo rate I had booked. It took a long time to sort it out and they ended up honoring the original rate. It was an inconvenience I wasn't expecting.

The grounds are beautiful, the spa is exceptional, and with two dining options, one never needs to leave the property.

The property is lovely and tucked away so you feel like you are in a small piece of heaven. Just the wait staff alone - made me want to come back for another visit. The food at the Prado restaurant (along with live music) is delightful. The service here provided by Prado staff exceed my expectations. The property has a Moroccan-based design and you feel very pampered and relaxed in a little desert oasis here. I can't say enough about this place!

My bad, I did not cancel in time -- and thus ended up paying $400 - $600 for two rooms that I was not able to use. That being said, I will NOT book a hotel with a 7 day cancellation policy in the future and would greatly prefer for Travel Zoo to work exclusively with hotel partners who agree to offer Travel Zoo customers the more normative 24 hour cancellation policy.

Nice staff. Some nice atmosphere with attractive and well maintained landscaping.
Other Comments
The fees and add-ons made the $119 rate turn out to be $200 with self-parking. Wi-Fi didn't work. Room was overlooking the pool pump house, which was noisy, especially when sitting on balcony or leaving the slider open. The layout of the resort was strange, cramming too many buildings in weird places.
