Le Clair de la Plume offers bedrooms in three different locations in the historic village of Grignan in south-eastern France. The main house dates back to the 17th century and has pretty blue-shuttered windows and elegant architectural features, including its 19th-century light-filled conservatory. There are eight bedrooms and a suite in the main house, and this is also where you'll find the restaurant and the tearoom.
There are further rooms and suites in a historic village building called The Private House (dating from the 18th and 19th centuries), which is just 200 metres away. Just beyond this is the Mediterranean Garden, which is filled with organic flowering plants and has an organic swimming pool (no chemical treatments are used). On sunny days between the end of June and the end of August there's an outdoor restaurant in the garden, which has views of the historic village and the lavender fields. Tucked away in a corner of the garden, next to the swimming pool, is the Lovers' Pavilion, a converted stone tool shed and garden store that is now a suite with a private terrace and garden.
The Tea Room in the main house offers a selection of more than 50 different teas along with artisan-made chocolates and pastries. The restaurant serves quality traditional cuisine that's been recognised with a Michelin star. A buffet breakfast including local cheeses, fruit compote and freshly baked bread is served in the rustic kitchen of the main house.
Guest rooms have individual characteristics. In the main house, most have views of the courtyard garden, Room Jaune, however, has a private balcony with rooftop and village views, while Suite Virgile is situated in a side wing of the main house and has views of the garden and the fountain. The Junior Suite Thierry in The Private House has a terrace.
