Athens is a "must-do for culture buffs", says The Daily Telegraph, due to its history and iconic monuments. As well as being within easy reach of this city's popular historic attractions, Meliá Athens provides a relaxing base for travellers -- there's a swimming pool, a sauna, a hammam and a health club within the hotel.
Lonely Planet says that "bustling Athens is a heady mix of history and edginess", where "iconic monuments mingle with first-rate museums, lively cafes and al fresco dining". There is an array of restaurants and bars close to the hotel, and the National Archaeological Museum, the Hellenic Parliament building and the National Library of Greece are within 15 minutes' walk.
Two of Athens's most iconic sights -- Mount Lycabettus and the Acropolis -- can be spotted from the hotel's rooftop swimming pool. The Acropolis, which is described "magnificent" by Lonely Planet, is 25 minutes' walk. Alternatively, you can get the Metro from Omonia station, which is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, to Monastiraki Metro Station -- the Acropolis is a 15-minute walk from there.
Meliá Athens has a poolside bar, three restaurants, a bar and a coffee shop. Each room has a marble bathroom, air conditioning and a mini bar (extra charges apply). Wi-Fi is free, and 24-hour room service is available.
