Overview

Named after the neighbouring mountain range, the Kimpton Taconic styles itself after the grand resorts that popped up in New England in the late 19th century, complete with charmingly aristocratic amenities — think morning coffee and tea service coupled with an evening social hour hosted in the library. There are also 21st-century perks like USB charging ports and Chromecast available in guest rooms.

The hotel's interior feels familiar and inviting yet fresh, with fireplaces in common spaces and historic photos on the walls offset by modern fixtures and small pops of colour. The warm vibe extends to guest rooms, too, where you'll find vintage touches like analog alarm clocks by the beds and handcrafted wooden walking sticks for hiking.

Nearby are loads of activities available year-round: from skiing and fly-fishing to boutique shopping in downtown Manchester (less than five minutes driving). History buffs will also want to check out the Hildene estate — the former residence of Abraham Lincoln's son Robert (roughly six minutes away).

The Copper Grouse restaurant on site specializes in regional classics prepared with locally sourced ingredients, like the New England clam chowder with applewood smoked bacon. We recommend the grilled Georges Bank swordfish, or for breakfast, the brown butter and apple French toast with Vermont maple syrup.

Hotel is extremely well kept. Bed was comfy and the morning coffee good. But I had not realized thy Manchester has essentially become a shopping mall filled with national brands. Not what I am looking for in VT! But there are some nearby trails that make for nice hikes.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Good escape and a nice quiet couple of days. Will definitely return. Suggest that the room service menu offer more lighter fare options- pretty big jump from a hamburger at $19 to a pork chop at $38. Looking for a late night sandwich- nothing available. The lighting in the lobby by the fireplace was very bright. Dim the lights, add a bit more seating and it would be great to sit by the fire with a glass of wine. We went to the wine social (5-6pm) and had no place to sit.

Kimpton Taconic is welcoming in every way- warm and friendly. Very relaxing. Beautiful country decor. An evening social hour allows guests to visit and share their experiences in Manchester.

Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Only issue was smoke and smoke smell in the hallway and our room from the fireplace in the lobby. I would suggest that all bathrooms have grab bars in the showers as a safety precaution.
