The eco-friendly Villas HM Paraiso del Mar is a beachfront resort on Holbox Island, north of the Yucatan Peninsula. Tropical gardens surround the outdoor pool and adjacent bar, where sun worshippers can cool off with frozen cocktails.
The property’s all-inclusive rate covers meals, alcohol and use of kayaks and bicycles -- the concierge is happy to suggest spots to visit on bike rides. The resort is within the Yum Balan Nature Reserve, which offers a plethora of exotic birds and opportunities to snorkel or swim with whale sharks.
For an additional fee, the all-inclusive premium package includes perks like a special seafood dinner, free internet, private beach and a bottle of Champagne upon arrival.
The on-site restaurant serves fresh seafood, as well as authentic Mexican cuisine in an open-air dining room with thatched roof. After dinner, guests congregate in the chic all-white lounge and drink cocktails as live musicians perform and seashell chandeliers sway in the sea breeze.
The hotel's four suite options can accommodate couples, groups and families. Junior Suites have a balcony or terrace, satellite television, fridge and air conditioning. Upgrading to a Junior Superior Suite adds a Jacuzzi looking out at the sea. Master suites have panoramic views of ocean from private lounges and wide terraces with wicker seating. Family suites feature two double beds, making room for up to four people.
All accommodations incorporate Mexican décor including colorful Serape blankets, Mayan wood masks and wall art and woven hammocks.
