The William Vale

Travelzoo Staff

Why We Love It

  • This stunning, stylish 5-star tower opened in late 2016 and offers dazzling views of the Manhattan skyline
  • No air shafts here: All rooms have a balcony (very rare in NYC) and rise at least 10 floors above the low-lying neighborhood
  • The Travelzoo New York office wishes we could relocate to the 22nd floor rooftop bar, run by beloved local chef Andrew Carmellini
  • The outdoor pool is the city's longest, and fills with the fashionable types who flock to this trend-setting neighborhood

Named for a mid-1800s Brooklyn resident who once owned the property where this distinctive hotel was built, the William Vale brings 5-star accommodations, an outdoor pool and a hip rooftop lounge to Williamsburg.

Opened in August 2016, this new luxury hotel welcomes guests into a scented lobby with vaulted ceilings and marble floors accented by bold original artwork and white orchids.

The clean-lined and contemporary guest rooms are decorated in soft grays and whites. Each room has a private balcony (complete with cushioned chairs and power outlets), as well as nine-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. Luxurious amenities include Frette towels and linens and L'Occitane bath products. While rooms have small refrigerators, they do not have standard minibars: prearrival, guests may request their choice of beverages and snacks from the concierge, and fridges will be stocked accordingly. Alternatively, guests can order room service.

Chef Andrew Carmellini, Josh Pickard and Luke Ostrom of NoHo Hospitality Group -- the trio behind popular restaurants the Dutch, Little Park and Lafayette -- operate all food and beverage venues at the hotel, including the ground-level Italian restaurant, Leuca, and the rooftop bar, Westlight. This 22nd-floor rooftop lounge includes floor-to-ceiling windows, a wraparound terrace and jaw-dropping panoramic views of Manhattan.

Closer to the ground, guests can take a dip in New York City's longest outdoor pool. The spacious pool deck -- with its own impressive city views -- has plush lounge chairs, trees and a bar.

Across from the hotel's entrance, the William Vale built an elevated public park. Vale Park provides 15,000 square feet of public green space, where hotel guests and neighbors can stretch their legs or relax in the shade of a tree.

Lively Williamsburg knocks just beyond the hotel's block-wide property. Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Bowl are across the street, as is McCarren Park. Weekend daytime festivities at Smorgasburg are less than a five-minute walk away.

Three things stand out at the William Vale...first- an amazing staff, second- great attention to detail and design that results in a truly first class experience for each guest, and third- delicious food all over the hotel! My husband and I stayed in the hotel for the night of the 4th of July...specifically to be able to view the Macy's Fireworks. Though there was a slight glitch concerning our room which occurred between the hotel and Travelzoo, it was ironed out to our satisfaction and we were treated with great respect and kindness throughout by all involved. We stayed in a basic king room and it was a complete pleasure! Almost every comfort for the guest has been thoughtfully and tastefully carried out. (I am a tea drinker and the only thing missing was morning tea! I was told they are looking into that.) The bed was incredibly comfortable and the lighting throughout the room is most thoughtfully positioned...right down to a built -in (subtle) nightlight in the bathroom!

My husband and I are both artists and very interested in design, and we were thrilled with just about everything in our room...beautiful natural light, a roomy balcony with comfortable chairs and table AND a glass "fence" so that you can see the view while sitting! The floor to ceiling wall to wall window is a heavy glass, of course with a room darkening curtain (very cool), that definitely blocks the outside noise. I ordered a room service breakfast for the next morning, and despite the hotel being at full capacity - it came right on time! We truly had one of the best hotel experiences of our 71+ year old lives and we look forward to going back to check out the bustling neighborhood. One more word about the staff, management must be treating the staff well because to a person - every single staff member we came in contact with was cheerful, helpful and friendly despite the hotel being unusually crowded. We had a first class experience and look forward to a longer stay next time.

Other Comments
Although the hotel was beautiful, the operations were astoundingly below par. The front desk agents seemed to be confused with the TravelZoo booking, and charged an additional $355 which they never mentioned while checking in/out. The pool was ungodly crowded, due to it being designed positively too small for that size hotel, and highly understaffed for the summer months. And, lastly, it took 20+ minutes to get into an elevator. No, not just a one time mishap, but five times.

The staff was excellent! So helpful and we never got the feeling that you have to tip every person you spoke with - unlike other hotels on New York.

Definitely I hip place to be for younger people, but we enjoyed everything about our stay. The balconies, the roof top bar and the restaurants.
