Hotel Fürstenhof is in a historic building in the centre of Leipzig. Originally built as a palatial private residence in the 1770s, it was converted into a hotel in 1889 with further alterations and restoration in the early 20th century. Its Serpentine Hall, for example, was built in 1865 as a grand dining room complete with an ornate fireplace and decorative panelling carved from serpentine.
The hotel featured in The Daily Telegraph's guide to the best weekend breaks in Leipzig. It is well placed for shopping, and the elegant Mädler-Passage arcade, which is home to high-end boutiques and cafés, is less than a kilometre away. Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, the city's central railway station, is around a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Many of Leipzig's key attractions, including the Bach Museum, the Market Square (Markt) and the Museum der bildenden Künste, are also within walking distance.
Back at the hotel, the AquaMarin Spa Leipzig has extensive facilities including a heated pool, a Finnish sauna, a Roman steam bath and a fully equipped gym. There's a pool bar, plus the Cardea Spa, which offers a range of relaxing massages and beauty treatments.
The high-ceilinged Restaurant Villers offers a seasonally changing menu of regional and international dishes. There are more than 100 wines to choose from at Vinothek 1770, the hotel's smart wine bar. There's also a comfortable bar and lounge with live piano music, plus a terrace for al fresco drinks and dining in summer. In keeping with a building of this age, many of the bedrooms have high ceilings and large windows. The majority of the air-conditioned Classic rooms overlook the hotel's inner courtyard, while some higher category rooms have extras such as balconies and Nespresso coffee machines.
