Girona is a "jewellery box of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a tangle of cobbled lanes and medieval walls", according to Lonely Planet. Stay at the 4-star DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Girona, close to top attractions in the heart of the city and the set locations for many scenes in "Game of Thrones".
The Força Vella, "an impressive first-century Roman fortress" (Lonely Planet), is in the Jewish Quarter, where there are lots of restaurants, bars and cafés. Girona Cathedral is in the heart of the Força Vella and is a 20-minute walk from the hotel. At the foot of the cathedral you can find the Banys àrabs, preserved Arab baths that date from the 11th century.
Round the corner from the Cathedral are the steps of Sant Feliu, a medieval Gothic-style church with bell tower, which doubled up as King's Landing in the sixth season of "Game of Thrones". The medieval buildings, city walls and the Jewish neighbourhood alleyways were the perfect backdrop for filming.
The Jardins de la Devesa are "one of Girona's most emblematic spots", according to Time Out and are a 12-minute walk from the hotel. There is a market every Saturday, and regular exhibitions and fairs.
Dine in the Sargantana Restaurant, which serves authentic Catalan cuisine, prepared with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Or El Celler de Can Roca, voted Best Restaurant Award in The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2013 and 2015, is a 5-minute walk away.
Other facilities at the hotel include an outdoor swimming pool and a rooftop bar, both located on the top-floor terrace of the hotel with views of Girona.
There are 115 rooms in total and all have a bright stylish décor and wooden floors. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
