"Great deal! Room was nice and the property was nice. Loved walking around to see the filming locations. I would love to go back in the summer when it is warmer so that we could actually use the pool and volleyball court"

Overview

Close to the Appalachian Trail, the Mountain Lake Lodge has been in business since before the Civil War and has welcomed guests since the 1930s.

Movie buffs will recognize the sandstone face of the Mountain Lake Lodge as the resort featured in the film "Dirty Dancing," but in recent years, the Lodge has reinvented itself as an adventure destination. With 22 miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, rafting and kayaking on the New River or zip-lining through the treetops, there's lots for guests to explore. Note that a number of activities require additional fees, but complimentary activities include lawn chess, shuffleboard, bocce and use of the newly renovated outdoor pool and hot tub.

Rooms offer king, queen or twin beds. North Side rooms feature views of the property's expansive front lawn, and Suites add a sitting area and jetted bathtub. It's worth mentioning that because the lodge is meant to be a true getaway and an older property, rooms do not include televisions or air conditioners (fans are included in all rooms). However, between exploring the outdoors; dining at Harvest, the farm-to-table restaurant; and chatting around the fireplace in the lobby or over drinks at the Stony Creek Tavern, you should be able to get along without it.

Would have loved to have a TV in the room. Apparently not all rooms have a TV. We were staying with two toddlers so that would’ve been nice. The staff was nice to give us games for them though

My adult daughter and I spent a couple days at the lodge. We probably would not have gone had there not been a good discount. The lodge is nice The staff was friendly the area was nice with the fall foliage We enjoyed the historical background however the rooms could be more updated. And perhaps cleaner. The room was dusty and tired looking We did enjoy opening the window for the fresh mountain air. It would be helpful to have a room fridge and perhaps a microwave There is no t.v. but we knew that coming in so we brought a lap top to use with the internet. The food is good but not outstanding I would recommend the pork chops they were pretty good .. We had credits from booking with travel zoo which basically paid for our meals. However we had a nice time seeing the area and doing some hiking On a side note be sure to watch Dirty Dancing before you come since it was filmed there.

We had an absolutely wonderful three days at MLL!!! There was absolutely nothing to mar a perfect getaway. The food at the Harvest Restaurant was exceptional--the portions were large enough for us to share. Sheila deserves a mention for her delicious fare as well as the executive chef. Terence, the bartender, also provided excellent service and we loved the drinks that he served based on our tastes. There was a roaring fire in the commons room, making it a cozy place to read and knit. We spent an entire day hiking and the grounds men were very helpful in getting us started on the trails. In fact, the entire staff went above and beyond to make our visit memorable--so much so that we cannot wait to return. In fact, we said while we were there, there was no reason to leave the mountain! OUTSTANDING HOTEL AND AMENITIES!

Staff was the best. Food at the Harvest was wonderful as well as the food from the bar. One of the best chicken wraps I've ever had. Short hike to the cliffs. View was outstanding. We would definitely go back.

The hotel food was excellent and reasonably priced. They could have gouged customers because of the remote location but instead provided great food and drink at prices to keep customers coming back. We had a three omelet breakfast with roasted potatoes and fruit for $11.99. Dinners were under $20 for entree. We also enjoyed the warm and cozy bar and its happy hour specials. We had a good time walking the hotel grounds and trails. Though we did not use the pools. They looked inviting and we saw several families enjoying them. If we were with a group, a longer stay would have been nice. For my husband and me, three nights was just right.

We had a wonderful time. It was like we stepped back in time to a calmer, gentler America. We had several wonderful hikes, great swimming, exceptional food at the Harvest restaurant, and exceptional craft beer from Virginia in the Tavern.

The decor and cleanliness of the facility were top notch, as was the staffing. We loved having no television, no clock and no telephone in our lodge room. This helped us to remember that we were on a retreat from the "real" world. Also, I really enjoyed the information about the filming of Dirty Dancing - a movie I loved!
