Hotel Crowne Plaza Berlin Potsdamer Platz
About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- This art deco themed hotel opened in 2013
- On a quiet street near Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz and the Jewish Museum
- There’s an on-site health centre, with a sauna, steam room and gym
With its stylised art deco exterior and period interior touches, the Hotel Crowne Plaza Berlin Potsdamer Platz oozes the elegance of 1930s Bohemian Berlin famously portrayed in the movie Cabaret. The open fireplace in the lobby of the listed building -- a former post office -- plus high ceilings and wide, stone-floored corridors all help to transport guests back to that chic era.
Location is a big plus: although tucked down a quiet side street in the once-alternative, now increasingly upmarket Kreuzberg, the hotel is only 10 minutes’ walk from the bars and restaurants of Postdamer Platz. Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag, and the Jewish Museum are also just a few minutes’ away.
The rooms and suites have a more modern feel -- wooden floors and beige furnishings complement the Japanese cherry blossom branch emblazoned on the wall behind each bed. Soundproofed windows add to the calm ambience. Bathrooms have powerful rain showers and free-standing tubs. Upgrade to an Executive Room or Suite to get access to the new Executive Lounge with free Wi-Fi, drinks and snacks all day.
An on-site health centre includes a sauna, steam room and gym and guests can organise in-room massages at the concierge desk. There is also a public swimming pool opposite (charges apply) – mention that you are staying at the hotel for a small discount. Serving lunch and dinner, The Post restaurant is a chrome-rich, brasserie-style eatery, styled on the swinging pre-war era. Expect delights such as filet of tuna and avocado cream, braised ox cheeks and port wine jus, and wild mushroom consommé on the menu. The adjacent Post Bar is a pleasant place for a nightcap before bed.
