Overview

The Llawnroc Hotel is a cosy property on the south coast of Cornwall. It is on the Roseland Peninsula -- an area that is known for its "intimate wooded valleys, medieval field patterns and chamfered cliffs leading down to hidden coves" (The Daily Telegraph).

The hotel is in Gorran Haven -- a quaint village with white washed cottages and a working harbour -- a couple of minutes' walk from two sandy beaches and the South West Coast Path. It is also around 10 minutes' drive from the pretty port of Mevagissey and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which showcases "amazing experiments in horticulture and landscape design" (The Daily Telegraph) and was only rediscovered in 1990. The iconic tropical biomes of the Eden Project are 30 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's Gwineas Bar & Bistro makes good use of regional produce with its classic menu, which includes gourmet burgers and Cornish fish and chips. The bistro occupies the site of an old inn, and the bar shows live sports TV with local ales on tap, as well as wines, lagers and cocktails. You can dine on the terrace in good weather.

There are 18 individually decorated bedrooms, some with sea views and others with balconies. Wi-Fi is free.

Recommend sea view room if you are able to get a good deal. Have said I would return, but only if I had a good deal on price as breakfast does not warrant £180 charge for sea view B&B, especially when on both mornings they did not have any smoked salmon despite to bkfst offerings with this - that was disappointing.

The elegant hotel features and the peaceful area surrounding it

The decor is beautiful but it has become very dusty and the chairs in the bar area are torn. The garden furniture is also becoming worn and dirty including the cushions. It needs a good spring clean and paint. The voile curtain in our bedroom was shredded. It is as though it was all fully decorated around six years ago and has never been touched since and perhaps the cleaning staff haven't got enough time to do their job properly. Our towels weren't changed or even tidied up on the rail.

Spoilt by small things, mainly around breakfast which could have been so much better if some more care had gone into it. I wouldn't go back at the full list price but it was great for what we paid

Staff were helpful. Room was very nice with sea view, located on first floor. Only possible downside was that you could hear music from the bar, however when we called reception at bed time they were happy to turn it off! Food was very nice in the restaurant.
