Once a Ritz-Carlton resort, the Hyatt took over this property in 2014 and gave the luxe, 5-star resort a total update. The result is the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall and the adjacent adults-only Hyatt Zilara.
Although both properties share some of the restaurants and facilities, like the spa and fitness center, the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall is marketed towards families. Kid-friendly attributes here include a beautiful pool with plenty of shallow areas and shelves, perfect for little splashers. Older kids can play staff-led games and shake their groove things during poolside dance contests.
Other family favorites include an ocean trampoline, nightly entertainment and a kids club, whose staff receives rave reviews for its attention and care.
Depending on the booking, guests can either stay in the original Ritz building or the refurbished one, and the difference is notable. Although the exterior of all of the buildings are designed in a whitewashed plantation style with arched doorways, ornate balustrades and peaked roofs, the interiors differ significantly. Some guests feel the older building is a bit dated. The lobby and newer guest room building are more contemporary, so be sure to request the new wing when booking.
Multiple restaurants cater to a variety of tastes including Italian, Chinese and Brazilian. TripAdvisor reviewers say the food is better than expected for an all-inclusive and particularly praise the jerk shack on the beach.
The beach itself is petite but has a man-made stone barrier that creates a small lagoon for safe splashing. The shore is rocky, so unless you’re wearing swim shoes, it’s not ideal for long strolls and sandcastle-building might be uncomfortable.
While in Montego Bay, check out the world class White Witch Golf Resort next door, where guests can play a round for free, and the famous Rose Hall Great House (a must-see). A free roundtrip airport shuttle takes care of getting you to and from the resort. If you’d like to explore Jamaica outside of the cozy resort confines, your best bet is to book a private tour.
