For those who want the beauty of the Bahamas without the hassle of international travel, the Caribbean Resort delivers. The boutique collection of 16 lavishly appointed Caribbean-style homes is located in Islamorada, about halfway down the string of islands that form the Florida Keys.
Like its Caribbean counterparts, most of the small towns that make up the Keys have the same laid-back attitude and panoramic views of clear aqua waters. Islamorada is no exception, and families and groups traveling to the Caribbean Resort can expect to find the Key West-style blend of Victorian meets Bahamian design that is hallmark of the Keys.
Each of the properties have furnished, wrap-around living porches meant to encourage lounging, high-planked ceilings and tiled floors. Start your day with breakfast al fresco before heading to the water.
Experienced anglers will probably want to spend the day exploring Islamorada’s waters making sure the area lives up to its reputation as the “fishing capital of the world.” You can bring your own watercraft, and dock at the property’s marina or have the hotel staff find a local rental place.
Landlubbers can try fishing off the 450-foot fishing pier, or skip the poles altogether, and spend the day lounging at the free-form pool watching the pineapple, banana and palm trees gently swaying in the breeze.
After a day at sea, cook up the catch of the day, or freeze some of your bounty for another time. Each unit has a state-of-the art kitchen with granite countertops and high-end appliances like Wolf ranges and Sub-Zero fridges. There aren’t any restaurants on the property, but the kitchens are so well-equipped you may not care.
