Château de la Cazine is a country-house hotel set in 220 acres of parkland on the banks of a fishing lake. The hotel is located in rural Limousin -- a region of France known for its lakes and forests.
The château is a great starting point from which to explore the Limousin region. The village of Noth, located on the opposite side of the lake -- which you can see from the hotel -- is a few minutes' drive away. La Souterraine, a pretty medieval town that is home to a number of historic landmarks, including an 11th-century church with a Roman crypt, is also a 10-minute drive from the château.
If you'd like to venture a little further then the historic regional capital of Limoges can be reached within 45 minutes by car. This city "is compact and easy to explore", with "historic buildings and museums cluster in the medieval Cité quarter", according to Lonely Planet.
The château's gourmet restaurant holds a prestigious Michelin star. We love the sound of the menu, which includes seared scallops with smoked duck, Jerusalem artichokes and hazelnut oil cappuccino and Limousin veal fillet with Anna potatoes, oyster mushroom and savagnin jus.
Other amenities include a wine bar, a beauty salon, an outdoor infinity pool, tennis courts and a fitness centre. The surrounding area is also great for cycling -- the château offers free bike hire -- hiking, fishing and horse riding, with trails close by.
Prestige Suites all boast lake views and come with a shower and separate free-standing bath. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
