Why We Love This Hotel

  • This Grade II-listed manor is set in 20 acres of hilltop parkland
  • Bailbrook House Hotel holds four AA Silver Stars, and the restaurant has two AA Rosettes
  • The hotel is "perfectly placed" (The AA), 15 minutes' drive from the attractions of Bath

Bailbrook House Hotel -- a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion built by architect John Eveleigh in the 1790s, is nestled in manicured gardens on the outskirts of Bath. The property boasts country and city vistas, a laid-back atmosphere and a honey-stone façade.

The city centre, home to the Roman Baths, The Pump Room and the Royal Crescent, is a 15-minute taxi ride away. There is also a regular bus service into town (the bus stop is 500 metres from the hotel), or you can embark on the pleasant hour-long stroll along the Kennett and Avon Canal. Return to a traditional afternoon tea served on the terrace in fine weather or in one of the three Royal Lounges (supplements apply).

"The Cloisters Restaurant offers romantic, high-end dining, and staff are on the ball," according to The Daily Telegraph. The restaurant (open Wednesday-Sunday) holds two AA Rosettes and is in the manor house's vaulted cellars. The Conservatory Bar is a lovely spot for a snack or an after-dinner nightcap, and the Lansdown Restaurant serves a buffet breakfast.

Executive Rooms are in the modern annex adjacent to the mansion house. There is a small gym. Wi-Fi is free.

The staff at Bailbrook were all friendly and helpful which added to our experience. The walk along by the canal into Bath centre suggested by Warwick was lovely. We would definitely consider a return visit.

Loads of coffee in our room but no normal tea bags, guessing they got missed as there was every other type! Tv did a lot of pixelating.

We loved the historic ambience of the hotel and the excellent service give by the great staff. The location was ideal just out of Bath and within distance for travelling to the City by car, bus service and even by boat. The dining experience was very high standard indeed.

Booking an evening meal in the restaurant is essential, at least a few days before arrival, and it would be helpful for future Travelzoo users to be aware of this. Twice now I have had to struggle to achieve a time to suit me and it was disappointing to discover on arrival this time that there had been a mistake with timings. However it was sorted to our satisfaction eventually. Other guests were not as fortunate and so although Travelzoo does the booking which went without a hitch, this is the second time the hotel has failed to achieve what was requested. My first experience was not with a Travelzoo booking, but a repeat was disappointing. Breakfast on Bank Holiday Monday was chaotic!! Insufficient staff to keep the buffet table stocked, long delays in the arrival of beverages and what staff there were, were hard pressed to keep everyone happy including themselves! Obviously staff numbers were insufficient to deal with the number of guests and according to one member of staff it had been busy continuously since 7.30!!!! Tuesday morning was totally different, calm, efficient service all done with a smile - lovely! I hope these comments are fed back to Bailbrook House which is in a delightful setting and has much to recommend it. We will return!!!
