We can't remember the last time a Chicago hotel opened to this much fanfare. Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveller, GQ and Vanity Fair all wrote glowingly about this old-meets-new Michigan Avenue property, but we think Chicago Magazine said it best: "Strap in, folks, this hotel is going to blow your mind."
Originally a gentlemen-only private club for Chicago's elite, this palatial property opened to the public for the first time in 125 years in May 2015. The property restored many of the 19th-century details, like marble floors, rich wood-panelled walls, 12 working fireplaces, stained-glass windows and cast-iron staircases.
Guest rooms offer a nod to the building's history as an athletic club, with details like pommel horse-style seating at the end of your bed. Modern touches like power centres with USB hookups and complimentary Wi-Fi bring your stay into the 21st century. Bathrooms feature white-tiled walls, Carrara marble sinks and C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries bath products.
The restaurants and bars on the second floor include Game Room, a bar with an indoor bocce court and shuffleboard table, and Cherry Circle Room, where menu standouts include chateaubriand steak, dry-aged Rohan duck or bone-in heritage Berkshire pork. Guests should absolutely make a stop at Cindy's on the 13th floor -- it became an instant hot spot as soon as it opened for its amazing views overlooking Millennium Park. For more casual dining, there's a Shake Shack on the ground floor. The CAA is the world's only hotel where you can order Shake Shack room service.
