Set right on St Helier Marina, The Royal Yacht is "a spick and span modern hotel with bags of style", says The AA Hotel Guide. Its excellent harbour-side position places it next door to the Jersey Museum, and 15 minutes from Elizabeth Castle and the ferry terminal, for day trips to Sark, Guernsey and St Malo in France. Ten minutes' drive away is the Jersey War Tunnels.
The hotel’s signature restaurant, Sirocco, is newly renovated and has been awarded 2 Rosettes by The AA Hotel Guide. Open for breakfast and dinner, it has pleasant marina views from its upper-floor terrace and offers a surprisingly well-priced set menu that changes weekly. Down on street level, Café Zephyr is a casual brasserie with a buzzing terrace. After dinner, head to one of the bars -- The Cabin serves pints in a traditional pub atmosphere and the POSH Bar is the perfect spot to sip champagne. The Drift bar has live music, table service and is open until late at weekends.
Spa Sirène is a real highlight. Voted the best spa in the South West & Channel Islands in 2013 by Good Spa Guide readers, it has a Swedish sauna, salt steam room, and ice-bucket showers, and offers marine-based treatments -- all guests over 16 get free access. There's also a full gym. The heated vitality pool is too small to do serious laps, but it’s a relaxing child-free zone. For those under 16, reception have free passes to the pool and waterslides at Aquasplash (10 minutes' walk).
Rooms are comfy and spread across the two buildings (those in the newer part are quieter). Standard rooms are on the small side, but are ideal for shorter stays on a budget. Upgrade to a Gold Deluxe Double for more space -- they come with a terrace overlooking the Museum courtyard or a separate living room. Top-end rooms have a small balcony or a patio, some with harbour views. Wi-Fi access is complimentary throughout.
