The Lygon Arms is one of England's oldest hotels, dating back to at least 1532. Set in the village of Broadway at the foot of the Cotswold Hills, it's a great spot from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

A short stroll away are the Ashmolean Museum, an arm of the renowned museum in Oxford, and the Gordon Russell Museum, which celebrates the Arts and Crafts designer. The village also offers a selection of shops, as well as Broadway Tower, which boasts uninterrupted views of the Cotswold countryside.

Sudeley Castle, Snowshill Manor, Hidcote Manor Garden and the postcard-worthy villages of Chipping Campden, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold are all less than 20 minutes' drive away. There are ample options for day trips nearby, with Stratford-upon-Avon a 30-minute drive away, and Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle and Prinknash Abbey all around 45 minutes.

The hotel retains many of its original features, such as wood panelling and flagstone floors, and the grounds feature floodlit tennis courts, archery and a croquet lawn. All guests have free access to the hotel's health club, which includes a gym, a spa, a plunge pool, a sauna, a steam room and a heated indoor swimming pool.

The fine-dining Great Hall restaurant is set in the hotel's 17th-century hall, which has an open fire, a barrel-vaulted ceiling and a minstrels' gallery. Guests can also dine in Barrington's Brasserie for more relaxed bistro fare.

There is a cosy bar, plus an array of lounges that are perfect for a spot of afternoon tea.

It is a beautiful hotel, brilliant location and full of history, but not functional with all the current works that its undergoing, which should be fully explained to anyone booking

The works the Hotel was undergoing and the fact they gave our 4 poster garden rooms, an upgrade that had been promised in lieu of Spa not being operational, being given to someone else!

The actual building was impressive

We had bad weather. There was a lot of building work being carried out at hotel so we didn't really see it at its best. we realize thats what made the trip a special offer. would probably be too expensive for us otherwise.

lovely hotel, clean rooms with everything you need. Helpful staff, lovely breakfast
Other Comments
At first was disappointed that we were no in a room in the main old building but in what looked like old flats on a housing estate from the outside. However, once inside the room was beautiful, clean, with lovely touches including a bottle of wine on ice. Coffee machine and facilities for making tea. Lovely place will definitely be going back.

Our room itself was fine and the staff were very accommodating but this did not outweigh the general depressing feeling of neglect at the hotel in general
Other Comments
The general appearance of the inside of the hotel leading to our room was a depressing experience as the hotel extension must have been built in the 1970's and looked like it has not been maintained on the outside since it was built but most people will only see the quaint olde worldie front facade when they book.

Setting- Broadway is a lovely town and the buildings that comprise the Lygon are elegantly decorated. The room was spacious and the staff attentive and helpful.
Other Comments
We had one of the 2 rooms in a building off the car park, but this wasn't an issue in terms of noise. These are recently refurbished rooms. If either room used the cold water tap there was a loud mechanical noise like a pump working which we have reported. The alarm went off at one random point (not after a shower or any other possible stimulus) which we forgot to report.
