Overview

Built in 1891, Najeti Hôtel Château Tilques is a Neoclassical county manor in northern France, a 35-minute drive from Calais's ferry and Eurotunnel connections to the UK. The picturesque grounds, which are dotted with modern sculptures, have a lake and a resident peacock.

The hotel is surrounded by the Marais Audomarois biosphere reserve, a UNESCO-recognised region of canals and wetlands, and is 10 minutes' drive from St Omer, a historic Flemish town with a Gothic cathedral and plenty of restaurants and bars. The town was founded in the ninth century, and later became the base for the British Royal Flying Corps during World War I. La Coupole, a V2 rocket base in World War II, is 15 minutes away by car. It has a museum, where you can visit the chilly tunnels and learn about the local area during the war, and a planetarium.

Le Vert Mesnil, the hotel's restaurant, is listed in The Michelin Guide. The hotel also has a heated indoor swimming pool (open from 7:30am-10:30pm), a tennis court and a bowling green. You can also hire bikes to explore the local area.

Rooms are individually decorated and furnished in classical French style. Wi-Fi is free.

Could not book two rooms for four guests in one go - I had to make two separate reservations to get the combined stay and meal offer Hotel room was cold and electric radiator fiddly to get working. We only had enough towels for one person Organisation for breakfast is poor. Additional food slow to come out of the kitchen. We had a 20 minute wait to get a new tray of scrambled eggs, Egg boiler did not work with eggs still soft after 15 mins. The toaster was for domestic use and far too small for commercial use. There were not enough staff on duty to meet needs of guests for breakfast. I had brought friends with me to stay at the hotel and I was embarrassed at the poor organisation and service for breakfast

The restaurant was first class, both our evening meal and breakfast - couldn't fault it!
Other Comments
Our room left a lot to be desired. It was very small, very hot, and needed some updating. The fan in the bathroom didn't work either. I did pass these comments on to the receptionist when we left.
