The Priest House Hotel is a historic property in a picturesque riverside setting in rural Derbyshire. The main hotel building incorporates a Norman mill tower dating back to the 11th century.

Located on the banks of the River Trent, the hotel is a 5-minute drive from the small market town of Castle Donington. The town has a museum, and although the castle that gave the town its name is no longer standing, the original church remains.

Other local attractions include Calke Park National Nature Reserve and National Trust property Calke Abbey, which are both around 20 minutes' drive away. The city of Derby is also 20 minutes' drive away, while Nottingham takes 30 minutes. The Peak District National Park and Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are both around 45 minutes' drive away.

Some of the bedrooms are in cottages just over a small bridge across the stream. They were built in the 17th century and have original fireplaces and beamed ceilings. Executive Double Rooms are modern and larger than cottage bedrooms, and are in the main hotel building. Some have views of the River Trent.

The hotel has a fine-dining restaurant, and its Millstream Bar & Terrace serves less formal fare and traditional afternoon tea.

The hotel is in a quiet location with East Midlands airport close by. There is a taxi service to the airport and Clients are able to park their cars in the large hotel car park while away on holiday.

Location was lovely and peaceful
Other Comments
Lack of electric sockets in the room. My wife needed sockets by the bed for her lung function machine and there weren’t any at all. Ended up running an extension lead right around the room as there were only two sockets in the room

The peaceful location (no through road) and stunning sunsets to watch reflected in the river

We found the staff helpful and friendly but a bell or similar on the reception desk would be useful as we often found it unattended.

There was a wedding on and as the weather was lovely a lot of guests were outside, however, the bar staff neglected to clear the tables or wipe them down so you ended up sitting at a sticky table full of empty glasses.

Lovely setting. Could not fault the food either. Room was clean and spacious. Downside was the service in the restaurant when we had to keep asking for things eg:- breakfast table not set up completely as dirty cup.missing fork, no glasses for fruit juice, no salt and pepper, no butter left to serve with toast and tea served in a large teapot with no lid. We ate dinner in the restaurant the night before and our bottle of wine was just plonked on the table unopened and not poured out!!! These final touches make the difference from making our stay only OK and not excellent which was such a shame

Love the position, good quality rooms at a sensible price

Reception staff were excellent, needed to move rooms, not because of room quality, but proximity to wedding we were not attending. This was sorted for us, which we appreciated. Receptionist was Carole I believe.
