Overview

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Only let down was the Bar wasn't staffed so had to hunt around for staff every time you wanted a drink. Everything else was as expected or even better than expected. A lovely stay.

Beautiful house and surroundings, staff not very welcoming or engaging, room was small but clean, food was ok to average, shame as if a little more effort was made, we would be returning customers.

Very enjoyable overnight stay. Staff helpful and friendly, food good. Lovely old building in beautiful setting. Gardens, grounds and lake very well cared for. Bedrooms fine and bathrooms appeared to have been recently refurbished. Some of the white paintwork in the bedrooms and elsewhere looked in need of redecoration (chipped and peeling) which slightly detracted from the overall impression. But, all in all, a very nice hotel.
