"Fabulous hotel set in splendid grounds, view from our window (room 9) was stunning looking across green fields occupying sheep that grazed up to the edges of the hotel, a lake housing spectacular black swans. Spacious room clean and tidy, food very good both lunchtime and evening menus and reasonable priced. Would definitely return"

Overview

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Other Comments
extremely poor food choice for vegetarians with only one option which is something with goats cheese which we cant eat. We asked for an alternative and only another cheese dish alternative was provided which was still not suitable - eventually they offered a pasta dish which was very bland and poor and tasteless. On checking out we found they had added a restaurant supplement for the pasta so we were very disappointed about this.
