Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Really poor food, plastic wine glasses and very average service. It was good value but you very much get what you pay for

The only problem we had was that the lighting in the bedroom was totally inadequate. The bedside lamp had a shade that totally obscured the light so that it was impossible to read in bed and the overhead light had dark globes which obscured most of the light produced. I struggled to use my laptop in the poor lighting conditions. Very attractive lampshades but not in the least practical.

Too many extras on evening meal menu. Needs to be a wider choice.

It was a shame that the "Deal" did not allow you to upgrade your rooms to something better than the standard double rooms which are somewhat cramped and badly configured.Understandably for financial reasons the hotel is more set up to cope with weddings and conferences and therefore a tad "cold" in appeal for overnighters which is disappointing bearing in mind the initial grandeur impression the front of the building gives - but appreciate we were on a " deal break" which is only a "low profit" proposition for the Hotel.

Fantastic grounds with a really peaceful feel. The restaurant served excellent food on HOT plates which pleased me as often I find restaurants bring you food on lukewarm dishes and it's cold before you can eat much of it.

The bed was comfortable but the room was compact with little space at the end of the bed to move round.
