Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three of his poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswolds countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, with its quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Very good value and enjoyable experience but room very small, a single really. We should have upgraded to superior rooms which looked lovely. However we had our dog with us.

We were lucky with fine weather & so especially loved the grounds - daffs & primroses still very bright & so much promise for the perenials (all labled& well turned over) Pleasant gardeners & those doing the mowing all chatted etc. Swans & cygnets also duck families with 8 ducklings all a delight. Glad of the seats along the higher paths!! Hotel staff always happy to give help. Well done all. Food served really hot & reasonable variety - I think we would have liked more variety & amount of vegetables to the meat.
