Why We Love It

  • Steps away from concert and sporting venues, as well as the CN Tower and Ripley's Aquarium
  • Easy access to both of the city's airports, and directly connected to the subway system
  • Unique commitment to the environment, with honeybee colonies on the roof -- offering ultra-local honey in the on-site restaurants

Overview

In the days of rail travel, the Royal York Hotel was one of the first sights visitors to Toronto would see coming out of Union Station. With virtually the best downtown location possible for both business and fun, this hotel is steps from many iconic attractions and office towers in the financial district: a 10-minute walk will bring guests to the CN Tower, Ripley's Aquarium, the Air Canada Centre, the Rogers Centre and the Sony Centre.

The hotel has an impressive multistory lobby with gilded trimmings. Past guests praise the consistently attentive staff, from the front desk to the valet to the concierge. Relax like an aristocrat of days past with a cocktail in the lobby-level Library Bar. Or, for a combination of dining and entertainment, visit Toronto's only Benihana location on-site.

All rooms are styled to echo the hotel's elegant public spaces. Although many familiar attractions are within walking distance, the lobby is connected by an indoor path to the city's subway system.

From the press:
  • "Today, it remains one of the largest hotels in the city and a favorite of royalty—both Hollywood's and the real deal" -- Fodor's
  • "When it was completed in 1927, the Royal York was the largest hotel in the British Empire and it still retains much of its original grandeur, especially in the sprawling lobby" -- Rough Guide
  • "The magnificent lobby is a fitting backdrop for the many heads of state who have stayed here" -- DK Eyewitness

Enjoyed Most: Their service was amazing!
Other Comments: We needed a fridge for our baby's milk and they brought one to us within 2 minutes of us asking. Then the gentleman who dropped off the fridge also brought us cold bottled water and asked if we needed anything else. Great location, great service. Comfortable beds and quick and easy check in. We will definitely stay again.

Enjoyed Most: We enjoyed the room the most, it was quite large and very traditional. THe pool was also really nice.
Other Comments: THe restaurants are really upscale, but a bit pricey. Also, our room was next to the elevators and a little noises, especially at night.

Enjoyed Most: The valet parking, the beautiful holiday décor, the bathrobes in the room, the beautiful room
Other Comments: The only disappointing thing was that there was no free Wi-Fi in the hotel rooms and it would have been nice to have a bar fridge in the hotel room as well. Otherwise.....a beautiful stay

Other Comments: Overall, was kind of disappointed with the hotel. Our room was small and the carpet seemed frayed at the edges. That said, we had a corner room and the views were great. The bed of course was super comfy. Downstairs, the Library Bar seemed noisy and wasn't the quiet intimate space I had imagined. The food at the restaurant was unimpressive.
Nancy Dec 24, 2016 Bath, ON, Canada
