Opened in mid-2013, MARAIS HÔme is a boutique hotel in trendy République (Paris's version of Shoreditch in London). This is where you'll find some of the city's most stylish bars and nightlife.
It's a 15-minute walk from Victor Hugo's house on the Place des Vosges, 20 minutes on foot from the Centre Pompidou for modern art and a 10-minute walk from the street cafés and parks by the Canal Saint-Martin. République Métro station is just down the street.
Back at the hotel, the atmosphere is hip, just like its surroundings, and is popular with a mix of travellers. You'll find a Nespresso machine and pastries in the lobby, there is free Wi-Fi access and guests can use the hotel's iPad at no extra charge.
For a small hotel, it has a remarkable range of on-site amenities. The breakfast buffet, served in the vaulted cellar, is typically French and includes fresh fruit juice, croissants, baguettes, cheese and hot items such as sausages and scrambled eggs.
There's also a sauna and a steam bath on the lower ground floor -- an access fee per room applies and pre-booking is essential but bathrobe and sleepers are provided -- as well as a gym. Best of all is the lovely roof terrace, which offers pleasant views across the city. It's small but is furnished with chairs and tables, and the free Wi-Fi works up there, too.
Rooms are chic and unique but petite, though this is to be expected in Paris. They are equipped with a Nespresso machine and gourmet teas -- some also have free-standing baths or small terraces.
