"This hotel was amazing. The location was perfect--you can walk everywhere from here, the staff was very friendly and accommodating (from the bellman weighing my bag for me to make sure I wasn't going to exceed the airline weight limit, to housekeeping giving us a complimentary bottle of wine the day we checked in), the rooms were beautiful and I loved the sipping hour in the lobby (complimentary martinis and wine by the fireplace). The Jonathan Adler toiletries were fabulous! The only complaint I had is that the beds were really firm and the bedding seemed a little cheap. I would absolutely go back to this hotel and highly recommend it."

Overview

This downtown boutique hotel has a welcoming atmosphere and dedicated following. With restored period features (like the original 1911 lobby skylights), Wi-Fi, a nice gym and freshened up guest rooms, this hotel is a combination of the old and the new. Combined with a host of pleasing perks, including coffee in the mornings and an evening "sipping hour"; it all makes for a welcoming San Francisco base.

Zagat calls the downstairs lounge and brasserie "vibrant" and "swanky." The menu options are sourced from local ingredients, with happy hour fare like pommes frites and oysters by the half-dozen. For late-night cravings, try something from the all-day menu.

The hotel sits in a convenient location on the corner of Sutter and Kearny streets that’s handy for business travelers (on the edge of the Financial District) and sightseers. Union Square and Chinatown Gate are just a short two blocks away.

Consistent with most boutique hotels in San Francisco, the rooms aren't huge but each comes with an Illy espresso machine, leather headboard and an ergonomic desk chair. Suites are almost twice as large as standard rooms and have their own separate living area. Request a room facing the internal courtyard to avoid noise from bustling Kearny Street below.

The hotel staff were warm and professional, the decor was modern and fresh, the rooms were spotlessly clean. The location was perfect for our needs in SF. Will definitely recommend to others and go back.

The staff were really great. Genuinely hospitable with an enthusiastic bartender during the free cocktail/wine sipping hour.

The service was excellent! The staff was very kind and helpful. This was my first time to San Fransisco and I would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is the shower was a little small but the cleanliness and awesome service made up for it.

It was a great location central to many places. The staff gave us good ideas of where to go & what to do!
Other Comments
We originally had a room with the sink outside the bathroom. I think you should explain that so if that’s not what is ok you can decline that kind of a room. We were able to change rooms the next day. My husband 6’2 & that shower very small.

Friendly staff, clean room, which had windows that actually open (We were lucky enough to get a quiet room (window facing interior courtyard). Easy walk to Union Square and Chinatown.

Excellent location. This historic hotel is really beautiful, much character, The rooms are on the small side, though expected for a vintage hotel. Staff was friendly & helpful.
Other Comments
