On the Embarcadero waterfront, the boutique Hotel Vitale is known for its prime location and what Conde Nast Traveller calls its "million-dollar view." With two outdoor terraces (on the fifth and seventh floors), the hotel looks out onto the glittering Bay Bridge. It’s also directly across from the city’s Ferry Building, home to dozens of foodie shops and restaurants and a farmers market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.

Rooms are spacious and minimalist, with the best facing out toward the bay (although the other rooms are much quieter). Some have walk-in rain showers, and many have deep-soaking tubs as well. A nightly turndown service (upon request) comes with a printout of the next day’s weather forecast and other thoughtful extras.

Fresh farm-to-table Italian dishes grace the menu at Americano, where diners overflow onto the heated patio during busy after-work hours. It's open for breakfast seven days a week and for dinner Monday through Saturday; lunch is served on weekdays only. The circular cocktail lounge, with 180-degree street views, is a great spot to people-watch over a drink. Polished floors and low sofas provide a sultry scene for happy hour.

Located on the penthouse floor, the exclusive Spa Vitale has three treatment rooms and is known for its deep-soaking tubs hidden in their outdoor rooftop bamboo garden (charges apply). On the second floor, there’s also a small in-house gym.

Exhorbitant price for quality of room/stay. Overly firm bed gave us both backaches, room service food direct from their restaurant mediocre.

The outside patios available to all guest was a unexpected perk. Great views and comfy seating. The down side was my bill. Taxes on my check out bill: Business District Assessments, Occupancy tax, GF CA Tourism assessment, and, Guest Amenities Fee, added up to $142.03 for two days! The Taxes were not the same for both days.

Form our arrival we were impressed with the location and the stunning lobby of her hotel. Check in was easy, but we were told the room type we reserved (King Room, City View) was not available so we were given the choice of an Internal King room or a partial water view with two queen beds. We chose the two queen bed option. The room was on the second floor with a view of the roof of a storage or facilities area. The room was basic, definitely in need of upgrading. There were several stains on the carpet and furniture. It just didn’t have the same quality as the lobby and common area. We did have breakfast in Americano restaurant for convenience and to use the $20 food and beverage credit. The breakfast was very nice. The morning of our checkout we were out running some errands and returned to the hotel at 11:00am where we found our keys no power nag we worked so we were unable to directly pick up our already prepared bags. We had to go back down to the lobby to request a key just to get our bags. Then at checkout, the $20 food credit was not applied and I had to ask them to re-do the bill. All of this just put a damper on our stay. Also, some self-serve filtered water in the lobby and all-day coffee would go a long way.

I am an SF Bay Area local. My husband and I were in SF for a holiday weekend that included a play and dinner. Everything was beyond perfect at the hotel Vitale, from the care they took to give me a spectacular room with a view of the SF Bay Bridge to the delicious breakfast at the Americano Restaurant. Beautiful location right across the street from Boulevard, a wonderful restaurant. I can't say enough!! We will definitely be back.

Fantastic location, accommodating and friendly staff, great service. The lobby was spacious and comfortable- pretty modern decor. Efficient elevators. Complimentary morning coffee in lobby. Scenic views from room ( bay bridge), comfy beds and a nice sitting area ( slightly worn furniture but still very nice). Shower with rain head was great. We would definitely stay again.
