The ARCOTEL Onyx hotel is in the heart of Hamburg's trendy St Pauli neighbourhood, a 10-minute walk from the lively harbour and 10 minutes by car from the canals of the Speicherstadt ("Warehouse") district. The city -- the second-largest in Germany -- straddles the Elbe River and is home to a pair of beautiful inner-city lakes, as well as a number of leafy parks.
Sunday mornings in Hamburg aren't complete without a visit to the Fischmarkt in St Pauli -- the best place to try local dishes by the waterfront. Be sure to take a cruise on the Alster Lake, cycle along the river or visit one of the many museums, such as the Kunsthalle art museum.
The hotel's café specialises in Viennese patisseries by day and cocktails by night. There's also a bistro, where a buffet breakfast is served, as well as a spa and fitness centre with a sauna, a steam room, massage showers and a relaxation room.
Each bedroom comes with free Wi-Fi, an iPod docking station, an ergonomically designed mattress and a comfortable window seat overlooking the streets of Hamburg. There are also three Suites themed around the St Pauli neighbourhood -- the Kiez room, with quirky touches including a cabinet showcasing the original exhibits from the St Pauli Museum, the Nautical room with it's authentic portholes, and the Musical room, which has a boxing glove-shaped sofa to celebrate the "Rocky" musical that is showing at the next-door Operettenhaus.
