Malmaison Newcastle -- converted from an old riverside warehouse -- is 14 minutes' walk from the central railway station, 11 minutes from the Sage Gateshead concert hall, a 4-minute walk across the bridge from the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and 13 minutes from the Eldon Square shopping centre. The Millennium Bridge (the famous "winking eye" pedestrian bridge) and the landmark Tyne Bridge are both a short walk from the hotel. If you're looking for some peace and quiet in a city park, head to Jesmond Dene, a narrow wooded river valley that is home to flora and fauna including native and exotic trees, kingfishers, red squirrels and many species of woodland bird.
The hotel's Chez Mal Brasserie, with views across the river, holds an AA Rosette and serves modern French and English classics making use of local ingredients. The Chez Mal Bar at the rear of the hotel serves an extensive list of cocktails and craft beers. There's also a spa with a gym, fitness centre and range of treatment options (extra charges apply).
The hotel has 122 rooms over nine floors. Standard Double and Twin Rooms come with free Wi-Fi, plasma televisions, bathrooms with a shower and a tub, luxury toiletries, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Millennium Bridge View Rooms are available at a supplement. Superior Rooms (also available with views of the bridge) come with king-size beds, ensuite drench showers and baths, and chill-out areas. There are three kinds of Suite available, which add extra sitting areas and have either deep or free-standing baths, or walk-in showers.
