Just off Jaco’s main road, the Hotel Mar de Luz is a basic and comfortable stay with a number of value-adding perks. Built with the intention of blending in with the natural environment, the property is surrounded by lush, well-maintained gardens. Inside, the décor is colorful and bright, enhancing the tropical feel.
Jaco Beach, a favorite of surfers, is less than 500 feet from the property with two beach bars. On site, there are two pools and a Jacuzzi for adults, as well as a children's pool. It’s an easy five-minute walk into town, and hotel staff are reportedly helpful with directions and suggestions. The owner is multi-lingual, present, and amiable. The property strives to be family-friendly -- not an easy find in the area. As it’s still nearby Jaco’s famous nightlife, however, solo adults and couples are pleased with entertainment options. A nearby nightclub occasionally keeps guests up into the night, however.
The small property’s 30 guest rooms have private patios and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, daily made-to-order breakfast is free in the vibrant dining room. An arcade room is available for indoor downtime.
Though Jaco is not the most serene locale in Costa Rica, Lonely Planet raves about “the sweeping beauty of the beach, the constantly excellent waves and the lush tropical surroundings.”
