A converted stately home that overlooks Dorset's Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon, Moonfleet Manor is surrounded by rural scenery and coastal walks. The hotel is on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with cliffs and coves that are known for their fossils. The Dorset Coast Path and Chesil Beach -- which, at 18 miles, is said to be the longest shingle beach in the world -- are also on the hotel's doorstep.

Abbotsbury, a picture-postcard village of honey-coloured buildings that's home to Abbotsbury Swannery, as well as popular beach fishing spots, is a 15-minute drive away. From the hotel, you can can walk the South West Coast Path along the West Dorset Heritage Coast, or drive 20 minutes to Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park and Tower and feed penguins and green sea turtles. The Isle of Portland, with its famous red-and-white Portland Bill Lighthouse and abundance of fish-and-chip shops, takes 30 minutes to reach by car.

According to The Daily Telegraph, "you will be well looked after" at this hotel, and there is something for everyone: facilities include a cinema, three heated indoor swimming pools, a sauna and beauty treatment rooms. The Mediterranean-style restaurant uses local suppliers for everything from seafood to ale.

With two cosy lounges and a garden terrace, there's plenty of space in which to unwind. Children are well catered for, too -- there is an indoor football pitch, a skittle alley, an Ofsted-registered crèche and baby-listening services (extra charges apply). Dogs can stay for £15 per dog, per night (payable to the hotel).

Click here to add on a spa day with cream tea for £55.

The cooked English breakfast left a lot to be desired, only warm and the bacon very greasy and sausage overcooked or rewarmed.

Great for families with children - really good that is what it is geared up for - OK for adults without kids but there are more adult focussed places around - hat is why I would recommend it o friends with children - but would no go again as group of adults

The food was good well cooked and service was good.
Other Comments
The beds were only small 2'6" NOT 3' Single beds. Room was clean but furniture a little decrepit and wardrobe door would not close which meant as it was behind the main door into the room we had to jam the wardrobe door with paper to keep it closed. We were presented with a bill at the end which had charges for just attending dinner plus numerous additional gratuities and donations which I felt were amounts just making up for the low initial offer price.
