The Standard East Village
Why We Love It
- A stylish roost in a neighborhood rich with nightlife and youthful energy
- Rooms are sleek but tight -- though you're mainly coming back here to crash after bar-hopping
- The East Village isn't (yet) overrun with skyscrapers, so this tower grants its rooms great views
- Free Wi-Fi and access to Crunch Gym across the street
"Quite possibly, one of the best-situated lodgings for those who want to explore East Side cool" -- Gayot.com

Overview
One of the hottest properties on the Bowery in lower Manhattan, The Standard East Village is the chic sister property of the Meatpacking outpost. Located in one of the city's oldest and most artistic neighborhoods, the hotel is one block from Cooper Square and a 10-minute walk to Washington Square Park and Union Square.
Although the entrance is designed to mimic the East Village's historic tenement buildings, the glass tower climbing 21 stories into the skyline is filled with modern amenities. Starting in the two-story lobby, guests bypass the traditional check-in desk and are individually greeted with wine as they walk in the door. The library lounge features a working fireplaces and shelves of books from Housing Works – all are available for purchase and benefit the charity.
Floor-to-ceiling windows flood guest rooms with light, making the 250 square foot spaces seem larger than their reality, and higher floors have views stretching all the way downtown as the hotel is still one of the East Village’s tallest buildings. Rooms are outfitted in fair neutrals with light wood furnishings, free Wi-Fi, iPod docking stations and flat-screen televisions. To feel at home, guests can choose between terry cloth, silk or cotton kimono robes found in the slate-floored bathroom.
American cuisine is served for three meals a day at The Café Standard but to see and be seen, guests should reserve a table at the hotel’s Narcissa, one of the most popular restaurants in town. For after dinner drinks, retire to the hotel garden where ceramic lamps strung between trees, mismatched furniture and curious sculptures project a whimsical atmosphere just steps from the sidewalk.
The property does not have a spa or fitness center on-site but guests have free access to Crunch Bowery, across the street. To pair workouts with sightseeing, guests can borrow bicycles from the concierge.
