Situated in the heart of downtown New Orleans' Warehouse District, known for its vibrant art scene, this fun, youthful hotel still retains lots of rustic touches from the building's long history, which dates back to the 1800s. Named the No. 2 best hotel in New Orleans by Conde Nast Traveller readers in 2018, the Old No. 77 is a "daring, independent boutique" that sits in "a plum location on the edge of the CBD."

Brick walls, high ceilings and exposed pipes give much of the hotel a loft-like aesthetic; the "contemporary and fresh" guest rooms are "quite spacious" ( and feature free Wi-Fi, USB outlets, flat-panel TVs, pillowtop mattresses and pillow menus, Bluetooth-enabled clock radios and honor bars stocked with local products. Amenities for four-legged family members include pet room service and even pet psychics (it is New Orleans, after all).

"Top Chef" fan favourite Nina Compton's first restaurant, Compère Lapin, is located on site and has already been named one of the "40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years" by Food & Wine Magazine. The menu features cuisine that combines Compton’s Caribbean roots with French and Italian elements.

Outside the hotel, you're close to pretty much everything -- guests can stroll through dozens of art galleries and museums on nearby Julia Street, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Lafayette Square and the city's conference centre are a couple blocks away from the hotel, the Garden District is a short streetcar ride west and guests can join the revelry on Bourbon Street, less than a 15-minute walk away.

IF YOU WANT THE FULL NOLA EXPERIENCE WITH PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.....then this is your place. The hotel, rooms, restaurant and staff were all wonderful. However, I hadn't read the reviews on-line until my last day & was completely unaware that the hotel is haunted. For a full 3 days we told ourselves that the foot steps, opening & closing of doors, whispered & distorted conversations, and weird loud bumps were just the people around us. Until we found out NO ONE was staying around us. It wasn't scary - just a bit unsettling on our last night after we had realized that the noises we were hearing all around us all night long were all coming from something other than living guests. I definitely would recommend the hotel but would make sure that the anyone planning to stay at the hotel knows that the Lafayette wing - and especially room 385 - comes with some additional amenities.

Everything written above in my "experience" can be shared. I just wish I would've known about the noises instead of the front desk employees playing coy with me when I got up in the middle of my second night to complain about all the noise. It wasn't until I checked out that they admitted that there had been a number of complaints about "disturbances" in the Lafayette wing. The service we received while in the hotel was worth staying for - I just wish they would've been more upfront about the extra activity.

Nice looking hotel.

Travelzoo "good deal" price was $20 higher than other sites. There was no breakfast included. Parking was valet only and it cost $42 per night per car (my daughter came from another location so we had two cars. Plus they charged $5.00 and change for a parking tax. So it cost me nearly $200 to PARK and we did not use our cars.

The lobby was neat

The AC in our room didn't work the first night and they were at 100% occupancy. The solution was to comp is breakfast. At check out I let loose that I was very dissatisfied with the way the situation was handled. They ended up comping is the room for that night but that was after I said that was my expectation. The room was approximately 80° in June with NOLA humidity. We were very uncomfortable.

The valet was best part courteous, kept updating me when they had issues

Very loud rooms, despite onlyb1 other bar in the area. Front desk offered coffee or tea, I had credit for it, barista refused to get cup of tea as coffee was brewing in another room. Rude staff.
