Why We Love This Hotel

  • It's two blocks to legendary restaurants along Rittenhouse Square, and Old City is only 12 minutes away via light-rail
  • Guests can also dine in on French-inspired breakfast or weekend brunch at the on-site Chez Colette brasserie
  • Rooms here are big, especially for downtown: Starting at 350 square feet, they also come with "cloud-like beds" (U.S. News & World Report)

Overview

Set in the same building that once housed the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, the Sofitel still bears many marks of its former life as the city's chief financial institution — think seven-toned geometric marble flooring, oak-paneled walls and lofty ceilings in the lobby. It has a lot of modern touches, too, like vibrant abstract art hung throughout the hotel — not to mention an enviable address two blocks from Rittenhouse Square.

The hotel's eclectic-chic vibe extends to guest rooms thanks to funky printed throw pillows and, you guessed it, more art on the walls. They also all come with spacious marble bathrooms, including separate tubs and glass-enclosed showers, plus Parisian-based Lanvin bath products. However, the real standouts are the Sofitel signature feather-top beds — they're favorites of U.S. News & World Report and Conde Nast Traveler.

There are two restaurants on site, Chez Colette and Liberté Lounge; both specialize in French classics like steak-frites and French onion soup with melted Gruyère cheese. If you're spending the weekend, we suggest stopping in to Chez Colette for brunch, where you'll find indulgent dishes like a duck-confit farmhouse skillet and a signature bloody mary made with ingredients from the rooftop garden.

Great location. Rooms need updating. Very good beds. I would not pay full price here. Under $150 seems about right.

The rooms garbage in the bathroom was not removed before checking in, shower floor felt grimey. Tissue paper stuck in the peephole on door. Parking way too expensive. Breakfast was mediocre . Not worth the money

The room was nice for what we paid except the thermostat wasn't working and room was a constant 82° which made sleeping uncomfortable. Also there was a leak that ran all over the bathroom floor which I alerted staff of immediately after we checked in and although they said they would take care of it all they did was wipe it up. Each morning there was a river in the middle of the bathroom floor.

I would not stay again if I had to pay their normal rate.

The Sofitel Philadelphia hotel was a very nice and clean hotel. I ran the Philadelphia 1/2 marathon and the location was in the perfect spot for family and friends to come cheer me on. The hotel is located in Rittenhouse Square and walking distance to a lot of bar and restaurants. Definitely recommend this hotel.
