"This is a lovely boutique hotel in the historic Gaslamp district of San Diego. It is reminiscent of old world European hotels with its charming balconies and large windows. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Valet parking is efficient and well worth it! We stayed two nights and had a great 3 days touring in San Diego from this convenient and comfortable hotel."

Overview

Nearly a century after opening, two Victorian-era hotels merged to create the Horton Grand Hotel in the mid-1980s. Saved from demolition then carefully taken apart, transported and reconstructed side by side, the hotel now sits in San Diego's liveliest neighborhood, steps to the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum and multitude of lounges, restaurants, boutiques and attractions.

The two elegantly restored buildings -- now connected via a light-filled atrium and New-Orleans style courtyard -- feature handcrafted antiques, elegant period decor and a 200-year-old hand-carved oak grand staircase. Marble fireplaces and wrought-iron balconies characterize many of the charming guest rooms -- each with unique decor -- at the hotel, complemented by modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi.

Off the lobby, grab a drink or a bite at the newly opened Salt & Whiskey which transports guests back in time with wood-paneled walls, elegant decor, a cozy atmosphere and live entertainment Thursday-Saturday evenings. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available and there's also a 24-hour on-site gift shop which is ideal for late-night snack purchases and forgetful packers who may have missed a necessity.

The hotel itself was beautiful, clean and great location but in our room 229 we overheard the very loud music from hotel bar almost whole night. My kid and me could not sleep for one moment. We waited almost 30 minutes to check in while there was not so many people, at the end we did not even get breakfast voucher and found out through our other friends there should be a $30 off breakfast voucher. When next morning before breakfast we claimed our voucher to the front desk, the guy said we do not have such a thing in this hotel until I named the people have it he called his college and said it seems we have it but I don’t know where and I should look for it. Finally after 20-25 minutes we could join our friends for breakfast which was another disappointed. Only one person to serve, when after 15 minutes waiting I asked at least for a glass of water for my kid he said I have to serve other and come to you. My kid pancakes came with butter instead of whoop cream that I ordered and I didn’t even ask to change because I didn’t want to wait another 15 minutes.

Lovely stay with very helpful staff. Fantastic dinner at Salt and Whiskey - highly recommend. Had a balcony King room and it was very comfortable, the lovely gas fireplace a delight at the end of the day. Staff were wonderful about making our special stay for our 25th anniversary something special.

Highly recommend and would definitely go back. Only slight blip was poor wi-fi. It was pretty slow in the evenings.

Great place to stay for the location and the price. Not the most fancy and up to date rooms but still nice and clean.

Beautiful historic hotel in excellent condition. Loved the balcony, but street noise from raucous groups until 3 a.m. was almost unbearable.

Our room was not ready at 3:00 p.m. as guaranteed. The front desk clerk took my phone number and said he would text me when the room was ready, but no text ever came.
