Why We Love It

  • Just around the corner from Times Square and on a quieter side street, allowing for a restful night's sleep
  • Rooms are tight, but guests are mainly out sightseeing -- Rockefeller Center is a 10-minute walk away
  • The hotel is less than a five-minute walk to Restaurant Row, lined with well-known favourites like Joe Allen, Orso and Becco

The Gallivant Times Square offers small but stylish rooms in a tourist's most-wanted location. It is right around the corner from Times Square's main intersection but hidden on a side street so that the immediate area is quiet and restful compared to hotels directly in Times Square.

Rooms have modern furnishings but are a bit tight and have doorless-showers that can wet the floors, but you won't be spending your time in the guest rooms -- the dozens of Broadway theatres within five blocks will keep you out into the evening. Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall are three blocks away, the Museum of Modern Art and the high-end shops on Fifth Avenue are another 10 blocks from the hotel.

An'nam offers Vietnamese and Japanese fusion-inspired cuisine on site, but also serves up a traditional American buffet breakfast each morning (surcharge applies). DING offers freestyling barbecue that you can prepare yourself, shabu-shabu and tapas. For further exploring, Restaurant Row -- which is packed with ethnic eateries and bars -- is just a block or two west along Eighth and Ninth avenues.

Getting There

Typically 40 minutes by taxi from John F. Kennedy International Airport, the fare is approximately US$50, not including tip and tolls. Alternatively, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and change for the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station, which is 15-20 minutes on foot from the hotel. The journey should take a bit more than an hour but will be much cheaper.

i asked for a quiet room...the window pane was THIN and you could hear every noise outside....ALSO there was CARDBOARD where a former AC/Window unit was...and that also contributed to the noise...also the ac in the room was LESS THAN ADEQUATE...and the AC in the Lobby was VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTANT>>>We sweated the moment we were checking in until we go up to the room which was TINY! like a DORM ROOM. NO Ironing board to iron clothes...no rack to put suitcases.. this was terribly unacceptable

Front desk staff was very helpful with us checking in a little early.

Rooms and bathrooms are fairly small, which is to be expected in NYC. Location is best for visiting Midtown. We were visiting to see Hamilton and it's one street over and walkable.

Location is unbeatable! Premium room was spacious especially for a NYC room

Customer service was lacking at this hotel. Housekeeping did not replenish towels and toiletries but room was cleaned to my standards. Elevator is notoriously slow and a hinderance at checkout. Of note there is a fire station around the corner, if this will bother you.

The location is in the heart of everything. We didn’t have to walk far to see shows.

The only drawback to our room was that our two daughters were staying on the side with the bunk beds and they’re were no electrical outlets on that side of the room.

I enjoyed the location of the hotel but my room was not ready at 3 pm and when it was ready the floor was dirty and the sheet on the coverlet stained. I asked that the sheets be changed and the floor be cleaned again. The sheets were changed but the floor still had stains. Other than that, the staff was very pleasant indeed.

Other Comments
We never had TV service and were only compensated for one night of inconvenience when we were there for 2 nights. The front desk staff was excellent, but the Manager, Unique, was totally unresponsive. On Sunday as we were leaving, the front desk called her and it took her 20 minutes to respond, Unacceptable.
