"Mission Point is a beautiful resort. Our dining experience at Chianti's was fabulous. The food was excellent, as was the staff, and the whole resort was gorgeous - inside and out. We also spent some time in the bar area. Very enjoyable. Great views and good service!"
Mackinac Island is a 15-minute ferry ride from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace. There is a carriage to the hotel from the ferry dock (a $5 per person fee applies).
Situated on Michigan's famous Mackinac Island, Mission Point Resort was recently named the Best Resort in Michigan by Conde Nast Traveler for offering "the option to do as little -- or as much -- as you please." There's plenty to do on site, but most guests are happy to take a few minutes to relax on one of the 81 Adirondack chairs on the 4-acre front lawn and take in the lakefront view.
Guest rooms are fresh from an early 2018 renovation to freshen up every room and suite; all rooms feature free Wi-Fi, in-unit coffeemakers and garden or lake views. Rooms in the three-story Straits Lodge feature entry foyers, a vanity area and are a little closer to downtown. All guests get free fitness-center access.
The hotel's Chianti restaurant features fresh pasta made in-house; a more casual dining experience can be found at the Round Island Bar & Grill with omelets made to order in the morning and cocktails and burgers later on during the day. Guests can dine alfresco on the patio or around the firepits at the Bistro on the Greens or sip sparkling wine at the Reserve Wine Bar. Need a pick-me-up? Grab a latte at Boxwood Coffeeshop.
Guests can test their short game at the on-site 18-hole putting course, watch the sunrise over the water or, after the sun sets, take in a classic film at the the turn-of-the-century movie theater -- the only movie theater on the island. A visit to Mackinac Island wouldn’t be complete without a little bicycling -- especially considering cars are famously not allowed on the island. Rentals are available at the resort and feature a wide array of bicycle styles to choose from.

We were quite disappointed, however, with the room. Although we were upgraded to a room in the main lodge, the carpeting was horribly stained. I would hope they replace it before next season.

The view of Lake Huron from Mission Point is beautiful. The landscaping is beautiful. The fire places, games and books in the main lodge are very nice.

Our room was not part of the main lodge so we had quite a walk to get back and forth. The toilet ran constantly one afternoon , then it quit so I didn’t call for maintenance. Early the next morning, it ran again for several hours so I reported the problem when we checked out. There was a small nail sticking out of the back of the wicker chair which we didn’t know was there until my husband tried to move the chair a bit and cut his hand on the nail. The seating in the room consisted of one hard desk chair and this wicker chair which had an old pad which was worn and made me feel like I was slipping off the chair when I tried to sit in it to read. The mattresses were less than comfortable. On a more positive note, the breakfast buffet was very nice and the wait staff was terrific. We had dinner in the grill one evening and the food was of poor quality. I had the tandoori chicken lettuce wraps with mango salsa. Sounds good, right? The chicken tasted several days old and I had to search for the mango. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Who can mess that up? It was “blah”. What a disappointment. Also, although Travelzoo advertised the nightly price as $119. When all of the fees and taxes were added, we paid almost $150. Per night. We would have been much better off staying in Mackinaw City and just spending the day on the island. We will never stay at Mission Point Resort again.

For the rate you pay for the rooms they are incredibly outdated and small. It was a window AC unit that was very noisy and woke me up during the night, along with making it hard to maintain a comfortable room temperature. It was just my husband and I in a double room and it was hard to move around in the room with just the two of us let alone if we had our children with us. The resort overall was nice and staff was friendly, rooms are outdated for the price you’re paying.

Our room and bathroom were so tiny they were uncomfortable and the air conditioner did not work properly and was so loud we could not sleep with it running.
