Overview

Hatherley Manor Hotel is a 17th-century property in the Gloucestershire countryside, rumoured to have been built for the illegitimate son of Oliver Cromwell.

Set in 37 acres of landscaped grounds, this 4-star property has a walled garden and manicured lawns.

Local attractions include Gloucester Cathedral and Gloucester Docks, which are both 10 minutes away by car. Cheltenham -- famous for its Regency architecture and arts and music festivals -- and Sudeley Castle, are both within a 25-minute drive of the hotel.

The restaurant holds an AA Rosette and serves seasonal ingredients and local produce. There is also a Lounge Bar that serves sandwiches, light meals and traditional afternoon tea.

Classic Rooms are on the ground and first floors of the manor house. Executive Rooms have upgraded extras such as bathrobes, slippers and mineral water. Wi-Fi is free.

Please note: A spa is currently being built on site. Work is expected to continue until early 2018 and will affect views from some rooms.

The classic room was clean but rather surprised with the shabby furniture and a very small TV.

Room didn't look like an executive room upgrade in a four star hotel.

We booked into a 2 night break with Travelzoo. We were surprised with our upgraded room to 'executive' as it did not seem very 'executive' so slightly disappointing, I have stayed in better 'basic' rooms than this and nearly questioned with reception was it really an 'executive' room ?? On the first morning we had our breakfast order 'made to order' from a menu which was wonderful selecting bacon, sausage, etc. On the second morning (a Saturday) it was buffet style and we couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed in this downscaling of breakfast for us with lukewarm food. The dinner on the first night was very good but we do feel having booked a thursday / friday (when a wedding party was at the hotel), the attention to hotel guests was compromised. We couldn't help but feel that the hotel experience could have been so much better for the money we paid overall.

It was close to home and local for shopping, which wasn't what we were actually looking for

No real garden - 3 gladioli which were outside a side door when we arrived were trampled overnight presumably by a wedding party which went on till midnight. Building work to new spa (visible from our window) prevented access to an apparent walled garden. The grounds consisted a field with mown path around the outside edge for dog walking. The building itself had no character. The food was OK but the £18 dinner credit just covered the main course - a small meal of mash, peas and pork. We were grateful for the varieties of bread offered to fill up on. Desert took over half an hour to arrive. we were last but one to leave the restaurant having been there at 7.00pm when it opened. We should have been advised that there was a wedding going on till midnight and we could have chosen a different day, and also advised that there was no spa available and no garden other than a field. The place just had nothing going for it.
