Alexander House Hotel & Utopia Spa is a luxury 17th-century country-house hotel in West Sussex. The 5-star property is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection and won the Condé Nast Johansens Readers' Award and Best for Romance Award in 2015.
The hotel is set in 120 acres of countryside, just 55 minutes from central London, making it a perfect last-minute getaway. The AA Hotel Guide 2016 describes the hotel as "delightful", and The Times praises it for being an "oasis of calm". Previous guests include Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
There are 58 individually styled bedrooms that blend contemporary designer décor with homely touches. Some rooms have countryside views.
The on-site subterranean Utopia spa is "stunning", according to the Daily Mail, and has a 4-bubble rating from The Good Spa Guide. It is built in the style of a Roman bathhouse and has marble and granite finishes and mood lighting.
There is also an outdoor hot tub, set among the well-tended grounds and an outdoor plunge pool with decking area. Other facilities include a yoga studio, a gym, a fitness suite and tennis courts.
The 3-AA-Rosette AG Restaurant offers fine dining led by executive chef, Darrel Wilde. Expect classic dishes and innovative cooking techniques, with menus inspired by the local area. Reflections is a more relaxed dining experience. There's also the refurbished 1608 Champagne Bar, with over 145 different wines, 30 hand-picked champagnes and new Chase vodka cocktails to choose from.
