From the press:
  • "Mendocino is the premier destination on California's Northern Coast" -- Frommer's
  • "Bay Area locals are known to dash away to this region for the weekend, either to tool around the Anderson Valley wine country or face their own mortality as they creep ever closer to the edge of the awe-inspiring escarpments to better view the crashing waves, dauntless shredders, or occasional humpback whales" -- 7x7 Magazine

The tranquility and quiet, even with so many rooms. Staff very nice. A few glitches with electrical in room, but maintenance came right away.

The grounds are very nice. The people were polite also. We did ask if we could upgrade and they said they had nothing available.

Our room was very small compared to the other two couples who went with us. They need to at least put a comfortable chair in the room!! The weather was not good which kept us from actually having an ocean view which we would have had if we could use our deck. Otherwise all was ok. Our smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector went off in the middle of the night - once we opened the door it went off. I would go back only if I could request a particular room.

We had a great time, regardless of the rainy weather. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant/food and service were great. Dinner staff much more on top of it than breakfast. Breakfast kind of expensive.

My only concern is the daily $50/day pet fee. It seems that it should be a one time fee when you leave rather than daily. Also, we didn't even have maid service one day, so shouldn't be charged for that day.

The promotion included a $30 bottle of wine. Instead I was given a cheap bottle of sparkling wine. I asked for a bottle of real wine, as I do not care for sparkling wine. Was told by manager that the promo stated "sparkling" wine. I went to room and checked the promo info, and there was no mention of sparkling. Returned to front desk with info, and the manager reluctantly gave me a $12 bottle of chardonnay. Had to ask for s'mores. Had to walk through dining room to get to our room. Could not access internet from anywhere in hotel. Bathroom light so dim, was useless. Bathroom fan was extremely loud, and did not have a separate switch to turn it off. No mirror in room so one can do hair/makeup while another in bathroom. The heater was extremely loud. I have never given a bad review to a hotel, but for the price (even the promo price) this was not worth it.

Great views, some rooms are worth the upgrade, some just so so.

We upgraded and did not get a soaking tub. We did not get wine or s'mores as part of this Travelzoo package. We then upgraded AGAIN after the first night for a soaking tub and payed and extra $50 a night for a weekday. So $250 a night for sun/mon night. But the views were amazing and the 2nd upgraded room was beautiful. A bit costly.

The outdoor grounds were beautiful and it looked like some of the buildings were updated...but we were in the main building that has not been updated. It is worn and dated. I would not call it a "superior" room in a thousand years.

Where do I start??? The included extras were a joke! The $30 bottle of wine was a bottle of Andre, the $15 smores package was 4 crackers, 4 stale marshmallows, and a Hershey bar in a ziplock bag, and the internet did not work in our room! The shower had mold, the carpet was dirty, the balcony had not been swept off and the outdoor furniture on the balcony was dirty and falling apart!
