Overview
Whether visiting Washington, D.C., for business, pleasure, or a little bit of culture, the Donovan House offers boutique accommodations in a great location for all three. Travel + Leisure praises this "sleek" spot as "a bold design departure for D.C.," which you can see in the lounge chairs hanging from the lobby ceiling and the chic rooftop pool and lounge.
Rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, 400-thread-count linens, marble bathrooms and Atelier Bloem bath products. Guests rest their heads in "a luxe and sexy niche" (Frommer's) made by a large wraparound canopy/headboard; upgrade to a City View room for a great look at the National City Christian Church across Thomas Circle.
This boutique spot comes with all the perks one comes to expect from a Kimpton property, including a complimentary wine social in the evenings, coffee in the mornings, yoga mats in every room and free bike rentals. Rewards members get free Wi-Fi and a credit toward the minibar as well. Kimpton's extremely pet-friendly policies are in place here as well.
A rooftop lounge named DNV (for Damn Nice View) is available for drinks in the evening and the hotel also hosts a complimentary wine hour every evening from 5-6 p.m. When not socializing with colleagues or exploring the historic city, relax at the on-site spa or rooftop pool (which closes early to accomodate the rooftop bar scene), or pump iron at the 24-hour fitness center.
Of course, the location is also a major draw for the Donovan. Right on Thomas Circle, a short walk delivers guests to the White House and the National Mall. It's also a quick stroll from the bars and restaurants flanking 14th Street, a strip of dining so renowned it's got its own Zagat listing.
