Located just a block from Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, the Royal St. Charles is a lively boutique hotel that's a "well-located but hidden gem" (Gayot) with bright colours and contemporary decor throughout, from the vibrant lobby to the guest rooms, accented with tangerine walls and lime green bedding.
Rooms feature plush Serta bedding, flat-panel TVs and coffee makers. Interior Queen rooms keep things quiet, but if you want a view of the neighbourhood, the Superior or Balcony King rooms are your best bet. Some rooms can be on the smaller side — we recommend upgrading to one of the Corner rooms for extra space.
The hotel has an outpost of PJ’s Coffee & Cafe, which has been brewing in New Orleans since the 1970s — we suggest starting the day with a cup of joe and coffee cake. In the evenings, guests can also grab a beer or a hurricane from the hotel's cocktail station before hitting the streets.

The hotel staff were very friendly in a time of uncertainty with Corona Virus. They were accommodating and willing to give us a refund on our last day that we decided to cut short due to the city practically closing down. They told us on their end they made note of our early departure for a refund and now it’s up to travelzoo since that is who we booked through.

We had a wonderful trip in New Orleans. Flights were convenient and the hotel was comfortable and clean. Hotel was walking distance to the French Quarter and many restaurants and bars.

The only negative feedback I would have for the Hotel is the rooms were not turned over without asking. Overall, the experience was great. The location was close enough to the party but far enough away from the noise to allow the party poopers to sleep.

Things that were promised:
Wi-Fi
-Wi-Fi was fine.
Use of in-room safe
-Didn't work or even turn on.
Local/long distance domestic calls
-Didn't use like everyone else.
Mardi Gras beads
-No mardi gras beads or even mention of them
Afternoon king cake tasting
-Didn't happen.
2 welcome cocktails
-Got two drink tickets for Bud Light. Not exactly "cocktails"
$10 daily credit for PJ's Coffee
-Closed the entire time we were there.
I paid extra for the superior corner room. The room set up had a hallway of wasted space leading to the room which was not any better than any other hotel room. The walls were thin, we could hear full conversations of our neighbors. Travelzoo made it seem like we'd get the mardi gras experience but as described above, we really just walked into a hotel and got Bud Light. It was incredibly disappointing. My family/friends have used Travelzoo before and thought it gave an indication of quality. This was not the case this time.

The location was nice. Also the lady giving the tour information was very friendly. Her & the man who came to snake the tolilet was the nicest people there.

The room had a old washcloth hanging on the shower when we checked in. The plumbing was messed up. Also if you say come back to clean your room the housekeeping thinks that means you don't want it cleaned even when you leave out & ask the front desk to have it cleaned. On your sight they say $10 credit per day to coffee shop but it was closed no welcome beads.

Flights were great, booking was awkward at first because it was through the international package team and I didn’t receive the confirmation right away, it was cleared up quickly. I added the shuttle and it was great, no problems there.

The hotel was disappointing. The staff was great-friendly and knowledgeable and the room was clean, if a bit run-down. The problem I have is with the coffee shop-PJ’s. My trip included $30 in vouchers for PJ’s but it was not open the entire time we were there. When we asked, the employees would shrug and say, “she never showed up!” Or “I don’t think anyone works there anymore”. The cases were filled with food that sat there all four days-and who knows how much longer? It was disconcerting to say the least. On the last day the employees finally admitted to us that hotel very recently changed owners and that everything was kind of in limbo.

Had a blast! Tried everything in the short amount of time we were there. We did plantation tours, ghost tour, city tour, and cemetery tour. Tried poboys, charboiled oysters, cajun seafood, beignets, etc.. drank hurricanes and much much more.

The rooms are small but the beds were very comfortable. We drove around the block 3 times looking for valet. There were no valets outside, the valet sign wasn’t visible, & when we finally saw a worker to ask where valet was, turns out he was one of them & acted like we were a bother. In fact he told us to make the block again bc there was nowhere else to go. I though that’s what valet is for. I’d actually called the hotel before we spotted this guy to try to find out where to go but no one ever answered. We weren’t able to use the coupons at PJs bc the coffee shop wasn’t open when we checked out. No one knew why either, just that “it’s normally open but isn’t today“ so that was disappointing. Again, the property itself is very nice & inviting but it isn’t just a block from Bourbon.we had to go down 2 & over 1, crossing Canal st in the process. Lastly I don’t notice until after check out that they charged me the $14.95 amenities fee which was supposed to be waived as part of the booking terms. I have yet to reach anyone to get that credited back. I might stay again if the price was a good deal but it won’t be a place I’m specifically looking at.

It was so easy. We booked a shuttle that brought us right to the hotel and picked us up the day we left. Everything went smoothly.

It is a bit of a walk to Jackson square, but the Bourbon Street noise was not too bad. we were enough of a ways off that street to not hear it.

The rooms are small, we were on the second floor with a huge balcony, it was very noisy from the streetcars passing by, loud people and vars blasting their music. We did not get the credit for pjs coffee nor kings cake or beads. They did have complementary beers. The staff was great and most of the time friendly. Wish they had luggage racks and maybe hooks to hang up wet jackets and umbrellas. The hotel is in a fantastic area. It's a basic room but who is spending their time holed up in the room.

We had a great time but being booked in basic economy was not good. I would have preferred having options to upgrade, which I was able to do with Frontier, but not with Delta. The transfer with Mike's Livery was great, would definitely use them again.

The hotel is in a great location but the room was extremely small and in much need of renovation. We didn't have maid service the entire time we were there. However, when you asked for towels they brought them immediately. Some of the staff was very friendly, and having the on site coffee shop was great.
