Overview

Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa is a Georgian country-house hotel, which was built in 1825 and is set in over 260 acres of Cheshire parkland.

The property is at the edge of the Peak District National Park, and the village of Pott Shrigley -- five minutes' drive away -- has countless rambling and cycling routes.

Lyme Park, a large National Trust estate is a 25-minute drive away. Lyme Park dates back to 1400 and is home to an Elizabethan house, 17 acres of gardens and a deer park. During your visit, you can explore the house, which includes a library and a dressing room -- where you can try on items of period dress.

Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve and Biddulph Grange Gardens -- a National Trust-owned landscaped Victorian garden -- are both 35 minutes' drive away. Buxton is about 30 minutes' drive and the historic walled city of Chester is approximately an hour away by car.

The hotel has a restaurant, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a Jacuzzi, a gym and a fitness studio. There is also an 18-hole golf course on site. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

The location of the hotel was lovely and the views were amazing - felt like you were really in the middle of the peak district which added to the atmosphere. Relaxing ambience and certain areas were beautiful - I can imagine golfing there would be glorious! The price of the deal was also excellent for 3 nights.

I feel like the deal on Travel Zoo made the hotel a lot more appealing than it was unfortunately. The quality of the room we stayed in was poor, there was damp on the ceiling and the room felt quite dark and dingy. We got the impression that the hotel was just a bit run down and needed a little bit of love and care to improve some of the facilities. I also feel like the spa could be greatly improved with more natural light and outdoor areas as it felt quite stuffy and enclosed. Again, the spa also felt a little run down with some areas out of order, cracked tiles and dirty flooring etc.

I thought it had the makings of a really nice secluded place, that could command a higher price, but the reality is its not and they are therefore reducing prices to fill rooms instead of making the place what it should be and getting higher premiums.. the spa was very nice and the ladies very polite and accommodating I thought this was the highlight of the trip..

I thought in general the hotel was tired, room was dirty and bathroom was damp, there was some nice staff, but generally they were quite reserved, spoke only when spoken to, didn't make for a good atmosphere

A beautiful setting which was further enhanced by the awesome sunset across the valley.

We were a little disappointed by the location of the room being a 5 minute trek through winding corridors and use of 2 lifts to find our room and the reverse when returning to the public areas for meals etc. The room although clean was a little tired and the mattress uncomfortable, perhaps hence the price.

The location was fantastic. We didn’t go in the spa as we decided to go out while our keycard was sorted, but it looked nice from the outside. We had a fabulous dinner at The Lime Tree in Bollington, which was also excellent value icluing wine (about the same price as 7 G&Ts would have cost at Shrigley Hall)
Other Comments
The room was not ready when we arrived. We were offered a glass of Buck’s Fizz, not prosecco as advertised. We spent almost £14 on two gin and tonics! The key card didn’t work. Staff were ok, but a bit casual and information on arrival was minimal. It appeared some staff were very new and not well informed. The room was right next to sone kind of noisy generator. It was a very cheap deal, so I guess we should have known. This is a wedding venue and the whole experience had that conveyor belt feel about it.
