Overview

Located just steps from iconic Wall Street, the DoubleTree by Hilton New York City - Financial District welcomes guests visiting for fun, business or a quick getaway in the city.

The hotel entrance can easily be missed; look for the DoubleTree sign next to an Italian restaurant. Unlike most New York hotels, the reception is on the second floor, requiring a wait for an elevator initially in order to check in. (As with most older New York hotels, elevator waits here can be long.) The hotel places an emphasis on cleanliness and friendliness, and there's no resort fee.

Guest rooms are suitably furnished in classically understated wood tones and come with MP3 docks and DoubleTree’s signature beds. Many rooms feature views of Brooklyn and Ellis Island.

Guests who stay in this area will enjoy slightly quieter evenings than the bustle of Times Square, but will be within short reach of culture and entertainment, including a host of museums. The hotel also features a fitness centre and Antica Ristorante.

The location, while far from midtown, is amazing if you need to be in or around FiDi. Also, there is a subway stop literally outside the door from the hotel, so that is very handy to get back uptown.

The hotel is, of course, very tall, with 40+ floors. There are only three elevators servicing those floors, so it takes a while for elevator service. However, after my first night there, one of the elevators broke down, so for the remaining 3 days of my stay, there were only two elevators. With people checking in and out, luggage, etc., it was difficult to get an elevator, and so I ended up walking the 23 floors several times. Also, when I went to check out, I was charged the rates quoted to me by Travelzoo (which were in CAD) in US currency. So instead of being $404CAD, they charged me $404USD. Which with the 30% exchange rate, is a significant difference. I was finally able to get this sorted out with a manager, but it seems like that is something they should understand if they are working with Travelzoo. All in all, not an enjoyable experience.

My booking wasn't in their records when I got there and took a while to sort out, then my key didn't work because the front desk wasn't communicating, so had to go up and down a few more times. The elevators take forever and once had to go down 28 floors of stairs (really glad I didn't have my suitcase with me that time).

The room size was good and transit was nearby.
Other Comments
I read a little about the hotel and discovered a consistent refrain about the lack of speed in the elevators. Based upon that, we took the room on a lower floor (4th) and avoided relying on elevators.

Nice staff except one trying to persuade me to cancel my Travelzoo booking and book thru their website. But at the end, other staff helped me to successfully connect 2 rooms next to each others, which was the most important thing for me family. Plus, they gave each one of us a warm big cookie, which was a big plus. I booked this deal and stayed over Xmas is the lowest rate in whole NYC!
Other Comments
This hotel is relatively new, but tiny rooms and narrow hallway, but to new york standard, is fine to me. Only complain is the insulation for doors are not great, I can hear people closing room doors and elevator doors opening. Steps to Wall St. , NYSE and South Ferry. For people driving, I suggest should prebook thru Panda or Spothero, which I used and paid only about $20 overnite for parking nearby.

if coming to new york for leisure, suggest a hotel close to midtown for a centrally located starting point.
